Is Mighty Mouse getting points or money based on the PPV profitability? If so, he should fight TJ. If not, he should fight a can. If he's making the same amount, there's no reason to take the risk.

They offered him Ray Borg on Fox or FS1 (no points) and then they decided that fighting TJ would be a bigger fight and on a PPV (with points). He doesn't want to fight TJ:

quote:

Johnson said no. Johnson said he wants to preserve the integrity of the flyweight rankings and not fight someone who has never competed in the division. Dillashaw has never made 125 pounds and if he misses weight then the fight won’t be a title defense, so Johnson won’t be going for the record.

This is omitting a lot of what DJ has said, which I am inclined to believe.

In any case, how many buys was the DJ/TJ fight going to get? Maybe 300k. So if DJ got points he would make an extra 100k on top of his 350k? Whats the point.

The only way this would make sense for him would be if he told dana, give me a million and I don't even really care about points.

some by their splendor rival the colors of the painters, others the flame of burning sulphur or of fire quickened by oil.
Dana White is a lying conniving dick but the champion being preoccupied with hitting a record via poo poo fights reflects poorly on that champion, also. I have a hard time siding with either of them, or caring at this point.

What's the point of making 350 thousand dollars while breaking the all time defense record when you could sit and home and play player unknowns battle grounds and rake in those 500 bit donations

No.

The greatest moment in my life was realizing that I didn't need a belt to be happy.

that's actually a significant difference

also fighting & beating TJ Dillashaw probably does more for him in the long run than fighting Ray Brog. it isn't all just about the night of the fight. Ray is just one more name on top of the 6 guys who Mighty Mouse has fought that literally nobody will ever give a poo poo about ever again.

Ronaldo Souza doesn't think it was that good of a idea to take on rising prospect Robert Whittaker two months after he defeated Tim Boetsch by submission. As the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt shared with Combate, Jacare feels he should've taken a longer break, but ultimately has nobody to blame but himself for the loss that drove him away from a title shot.

Also god damnit MM didn't want to fight Ray Borg, he wanted to fight Sergio Pettis which buywise would've made a slight difference but UFC said no you're fighting Borg and as a company man he said fine They were jerking him around and he put his foot down as the poo poo continued.

for the money maybe it is or isn't, that is up to him

i would say that beating dillashaw doesnt really mean much to casual crowd, since they dont care about him either. maybe if tj fights cody or if he had fought uriah after the camp drama then they would.

DJ should break the record and then go up to 135 and fight cody or cruz or whatever.

What's the point? 100k is a very large chunk of change, especially for DJ. Not that I think it would hit 300k unless there was a really strong undercard. Honestly the best bet would be to have it as a co-main on a stacked card (MSG in November? Cody would probably be good to go by then though) so he can get a fuckload of PPV points.

I really can't see DJ headlining a PPV ever again; there's nobody he could fight that would draw enough attention to warrant a main event.

It's easy. P4p #1 DJ would be an underdog to Cody at 135. Less intrigue.

DJ defending against another top p4p guy at his natural weight and even odds for the all time record is way more interesting.

Yeah DJ's complaint was that they kept switching things around on him and jerking him around while DJ played nice for years through the loss of major sponsors and non-promotion. Right but that's irrelevant. DJ's position would actually be way better if he beat TJ (his riskiest opponent ever at 125) rather than Borg. He knows this. He wants Borg because he is a way way easier fight, like 10x easier for 1/2 the money.
