I think the ones who were seriously anti-gay before 2004 still are anti-gay. In 2004, Karl Rove really started harnessing the vague anti-gay sentiment most people had and using it as an electoral weapon. So people who had mild bigotry beforehand were encouraged to embrace that in 2004, and then by around 2010 the leadership stopped stoking those feelings. The people who always hated gays didn't need encouragement, but the shallow anti-gay sentiments that started in 2004 couldn't last without constant reinforcement.

And now they probably know people who are gay married and realize it is no big deal. Sometimes "conservatives" really are just that - they vote reflexively against change, but when it is a done deal, they deal with it.

So he's talking about a group of people here, right? Like yeah I know the joke is "it sounds like he's talking about a group of people he doesn't like but he's ACTUALLY talking about Canadian Geese!" but Drunky Duck doesn't partake in self-deprecating humor, so it's not an Archie Bunker "haha look how stupid and racist this guy is" situation, he expects the reader to earnestly believe that some group of people is "filthy, ignorant, and annoying." And possibly fill in the group they hate the most.
