I am really impressed by Jim Benning's complete inability to lure Vancouver born players to the Canucks even with the ability to offer more money and ice time than anyone else. He is a supremely horrible general manager.

Jagr is 55 games or around there from having played the most games in the history of the NHL, someone really needs to let him get one more year in.

Well, what happened the last time the Pens starting goalie got hurt, the backup played one game, and them the promising young rookie started in the playoffs?

Hey, Jim Benning hasn't even done anything bad lately! You can't impose the label "supremely horrible general manager" on him when there's a lot of other qualified GMs out there that fit that label!

I think someone will give him a one year, but probably he will be one of the last signings.

From what I've read he lost a step but if somebody needs forward depth that has real ability and a shitload of experience, they could do worse.

End of the summer culminates with Vancouver bringing Nedved out of retirement to play a final season instead of signing Jagr.

What attitude problem?
Most of the talk around Pittsburgh is they want a guy who is definitely ok in the back up role and that if Murray went down for any significant time Jarry could be called up as a starter. Not sure how smart that is given a small sample size of injuries to Murray. I would like them to pay low on a back up, but if Condon's deal broke the market for one may as well keep Jarry up for 20 games of play.

MAF was concussed so Zakoff started game 1 then Murray took over. Murray had been the back up. When Fluery was healthy.

Pens want Jarry to get minutes so he'll stay in WBS until the need arises. Hence, signing a backup.

Somebody has to do the scoring around here.
Just to clarify the happenings of last year.

Regular season
MAF starter, Zatkkoff backup

Neal domes MAF giving him concussion

Murray starter, Zatkoff backup

Murray goes on a big run, gets injured by the Flyers in a game he shouldn't have played.

Playoff game 1 & 2 Zatkoff starter, Jarry backup

Then it was Murray / Zatkoff until MAF was back.

i went to game 1 against the rangers last year and man was that game weird as gently caress going in. sullivan had been playing shell games with his goalies so nobody knew who was going to start and you could pretty much feel the confusion in the air, and the subsequent butt clenching when zatkoff took the net. it was cool as hell when the crowd rallied behind him though, and zatkoff winning the game (and hornqvist getting a hat trick) was a good clue that their regular season magic wouldn't desert them in the playoffs that year.
