My flight got delayed 4 hours, and we had to switch to a new airplane because none of the toilets worked in our old plane. New plane has half the people, which is good! I know Louis CK has a joke about going back in time to tell the Wright brothers about waiting on the tarmac but drat this was the most stressful flight experience.

I bought a house in Portland late last year that is on the edge of the gentrification bubble and there's like a 50/50 shot that it either skyrockets in value or ends up surrounded by heroin dens. Excited to find out which. To be clear, there is already one heroin den, I'm just not surrounded yet. Within my first few weeks here I had a lady park her uhaul in front of my driveway, blocking me in, then go into her apartment to get high and pass out for 24 hours. I know this because someone else came to my door to tell me that she couldn't move her uhaul because she got him and passed out on her floor. Not supposition.

Excited to find out which. I kinda did something similar I bought a house in an area I grew up in that went to the dogs when I was in my early teens. Developers built high density housing not far from the original suburban sprawl and the jerks that invested kept the rent low to take advantage of tax loopholes in Australia. The resulting scum that moved in kicked the crime rates up a notch and property prices went down pretty quickly after my folks moved out. When I bought two years ago it was featured about a week after I signed the papers in a few journals as the best place in Queensland to invest in real estate because it's 20-30 minutes from all three city / business centers and the area is already as developed as it can get. Its already getting gentrified as hell and there's a lot of nice new cafe's etc going in. Just gotta wait for the remaining degenerates to get moved off down the line. Property nearly doubles every 7 years out here and I'm lucky enough to be in a good spot. Paying off a mortgage solo is loving rough though, taxes go up every year and wages haven't been rising with inflation. The lower to middle tax brackets haven't shifted in Aus either, so even though I make decent money bracket creep in taxes and a rising cost of living means it just gets harder unless I get a huge uptick in money coming in. I'm just lucky I have like 8k in student debt and not 50 or 60. The property market in Australia is really poo poo. In the 1980s the government allowed people to write off spending on investment properties against their taxable income. So there's a whole bunch of rich fucks who have five or six houses who get a massive tax return every year and just hold on to property they also pay less in tax year to year than someone with no investment properties earning a lower wage. The problem is now that this is where all the funding for the unions and for the right leaning parties come from and it's also a huge demographic of voters so its unlikely to change. The govt also makes foreign investment super attractive so there's a whole lot of chinese money in real estate (something like 1 in 3 houses purchased is now purchased by Chinese investors). Literally hundreds of houses just sitting vacant because it's a rathole for money. Meanwhile our politicians just say "millennials need to work harder" and dudes who own a property empire from daddies money go on morning TV and say millennials spend to much money on "avocado and coffee in cafes". I'm not an "eat the rich" kind of dude, but gently caress my parents generation are a pack of entitled cunts.
