It's really not that difficult to pick a canonical ending and just go with it, or even combine elements from all three endings. Other franchises have overcome much steeper obstacles to create a convincing sequel. All it would require is someone with an ounce of creativity.

Forget Syntheisis was ever a thing, set it on the 100th anniversary of the end of the Reaper War. Reapers are gone, it's never made clear if they were destroyed or flew away by Control!Shpeard, and it's a toss up what happened to Shepard after the War because information was spotty; either they died or retired with the LI, who knows.

Also, congratulations, you were right that the Quarian Arc was destroyed and never made it to Andromeda.

Control is canon. God-Shepard then builds two more Crucibles and fires them off. Bam, all three endings canon without fuss.

Creativity is at a premium right now at Bioware.

Considering there are fundamental changes to the way life works in some of the endings of ME:3, combining them seems like a pretty big stretch. If you want to go within the same universe you pretty much have to do a prequal, or just do a complete reboot or smaller scale story within the confines of the ME world

1. The Reapers are (mostly) destroyed.
2. God-Shepard resides in a huge mega-Reaper that mysteriously vanished to dark space shortly after the events of ME3.
3. Geth survived because of synthesis and now look the same except they glow green.

In two minutes I typed up just one way to combine all three endings, anybody with one creative bone in their body could do the exact same thing in another arrangement. This thread is filled with people who, no joke, came up with far better ideas for the storyline of Andromeda than its creators did.

I agree, Andromeda should never have been made and I hope Mass Effect is gone forever. I thought it would take a couple disappointing sequels to finally kill Mass Effect for good but it looks like Andromeda arrived ahead of schedule!

seems everyone was right. its not getting single player dlc. my honest guess is if they do bring back the franchise, they are just going to do a direct sequel to three.
They should release a free dlc to MEA that's just a cutscene showing every single star in the Heleus cluster going nova at the same time wiping everything out.

even andromeda could've been alright if they pulled all those resources into creativity and developing a fleshed out galaxy with numerous new species, new technologies, exotic planets and strange celestial wonders to explore with a well-defined cast of characters to ultimately chart and morally decide the future course of humanity, as per the mass effect norm with just a tad more age of discovery flavor

instead they figured that the best way to start off a new setting was to develop an engine to procedurally generate bland new worlds without need for deliberate creative intent ... and when that predictably failed it became a race to meet the barest minimum of standards

I mean creating a new and interesting story in Andromeda would be incredibly easy, they just needed to actually arrive in a populated and interesting galaxy and not a barren wasteland of empty poo poo. They had a blank canvas to make a fantastical and unfamiliar universe and made literally just more bland poo poo.

Also your two minutes of effort sound like a pretty lovely way to fix this problem and while I agree there are ways they could hand wave the ending problem away it does not mean that

a) any of those ideas are good
b) its the right decision to make

which are the crux of the issue, not wether or not it is "possible". They could say that all of Mass Effect was inside some autistic kids head in the citadel if they really wanted to.

Bit of a shame. I thought Andromeda was merely an okay game - a hell of a letdown, but not literally Satan like this thread likes to go on about.

Then again, I was in the camp that thought Andromeda was a game that never needed to be made in the first place. The Mass Effect story is over, well done. Go do something new.

It's more that it's only okay if you shut your brain down and coast through it without looking too hard at anything. (No insult intended, just generally-speaking). The more you ask questions about anything in it, the more the seams unravel at a rapid pace.

With the original trilogy, asking questions about the setting generally had solid sensible answers either in-game or in the codex, or it was something you could relate to the setting with a sane argument even if it was something funny. Like of course there's a Fourteen-Hour-long Elcor version of Hamlet; Human literature's still a relatively new thing for trillions of people in the galaxy. And why wouldn't Krogan love American Football? It's mostly headbutting and tackling; their favourite things!

There's no picking the series up. It's not happening. Bioware is making Destiny games now. From the publisher perspective making Mass Effect would be a step back. There's a possibility for the franchise to be given to another studio but lol good luck with that, they wouldn't get Bioware budget.

It's dumber, but what it doesn't do is destroy the intricate world they had built. I hated the indoctrination theory too - all of the things the theories' boosters were making hour-long videos about were really just awful film school level 'deep art' poo poo that was thrown in by Casey Hudson and Mac Walters because they were so loving proud of themselves for coming up with the idea that war is bad. They never intended it to be read as indoctrination - it was supposed to be Shephard's PTSD.

Still, in retrospect, if they would have taken what the community came up with and ran with it (instead of staying slavishly loyal to their singular, poorly realized duex-ex-machina vision) they could have easily saved the world they built. Then you can do what Bethesda does with the Elder Scrolls - just make each game some x hundred years ahead of the last one. No need for a huge amount of character continuity, and you don't have to rebuild an entire world.

ME:A shows all the signs of them not having a clue how to re-build their world. If you're new to the series then the aliens from the milky way galaxy don't have nearly the same character and depth of culture as they did in the original series, and the new aliens don't have any real depth either. If you are returning to the series, you miss all the things that make the world special and get nothing new to fill in that space. It's just a shitshow all around.

I'm replaying ME:3 after a fantastic playthrough of ME:2. Wow, it's a lot rougher than I remember. The dialog is pretty lovely already. And there are less RP options and more hand-waved contrivances than ever. It's such a dropped ball and I'm only 2 hours in. They really hosed up.
