PMush Perfect posted:Dare I ask? It's not *too* bad, and it's coming from a well-meaning place. It's kind of more of a product of how long the comic's been going that it's as awkward as it is--it may be may own inexperience talking, but I feel like public awareness of trans issues has stepped up by a lot in the past handful of years. It's not great writing, but it's El Goonish Shive what do you really expect.

Oh yeah, I'm sure the guy has his heart in the right place, but this is a symptom of the problem the comic has always had; It's maintaining 15 years of canon all the way back from when it was this: I'm pretty sure the magically appearing anime-hammers ended up as a detailed plotpoint.

Yes it's very clever, but that doesn't mean there's not going to be people it's not to the taste of. It's not some unbelievable thing that people might prefer the slow pointlessness of QQ to the quick pointlessness of SGR (not saying SGR isn't miles better, but thing can be good and also simply not to one's taste.)

Please clarify what you mean by 'without anything happening' and 'pointlessness', hopefully not in such an annoying way.

I feel that John Allison has managed to find a way to manage his somewhat mercurial whims (which no doubt keep him from being burnt out entirely) with his new system of shorter arcs of New Bobbins, Present day Tacklefield, and slicing the gordian knot that is Erin Winters and the Boy's Adventures. I see it as a balance between Scary-go-Rounds tendencies for sudden deaths, undeaths and being exiled to Wales and the rigid cases of Bad Machinery. Edit: This latest story gives me more to add to my story I would love to tell to a Giant Days only reader "Esther began as Dark Esther... ...and then in hell he was transformed into a horse." I continue to enjoy QC and Elliott and Clinton should kiss. Instead, let's criticize Dresden Codak, because I still haven't exactly penetrated what's supposed to be going on there. Like, did Balthazar get replaced with a double at some point or did the writer just decide to reveal that he secretly had a completely different personality all along?

I'm kind of savoring every page of Widdershins while I can, too, because it seems like it's heading rapidly to a conclusion.
