Honestly, if the control is different, I think it goes both ways. I just did the sky bridge level in the third world and that would've been WAY worse if I couldn't stop on a dime (and despite the amount of times I just died I do remember it being WAY worse).

I was trying to think of platformer franchise where the first game is the best and you made me remember tthe Earthworm Jim series. How many levels in Earthworm Jim 2 didn't have a gimmick that take over the majority of the level?

I thought the dirt digging level was novel if annoying, but you shut your mouth about Puppy Love and Villi People. Intestines, pinball bumpers, and quiz shows never looked so good together. The flying one with the balloons was weird and the snot bungee jumping was meh.

I think out of the 4 major platformer franchises that the PS2 had, only Ratchet and Clank had better sequel, with both Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper trading tight design for an open world that made them not quite as good as the first in the series. Also the first Rocket Knight game was easily the best in the series. The first Bubsy was also probably the best one, it's just that it was also a pile a crap.

TBH MGS2 is my least favorite gameplay of the MGS series but it still works perfectly with the setting and design, even if i don't personally gel with it. I don't know how to deal with the first 2 hours on big shell without a non lethal pistol
