His death was ruled suicide by the Sacramento County coroner's office.[68] After a local paper reported that he had died from multiple gunshots, the coroner's office received so many calls asking about Webb's death that Sacramento County Coroner Robert Lyons issued a statement confirming Webb had committed suicide.[69] When asked by local reporters about the possibility of two gunshots being a suicide, Lyons replied: "It's unusual in a suicide case to have two shots, but it has been done in the past, and it is in fact a distinct possibility." News coverage noted that there were widespread rumors on the Internet at the time that Webb had been killed as retribution for his 'Dark Alliance' series, published eight years before, but Webb's ex-wife Susan Bell told reporters that she believed Webb had committed suicide.[69] "The way he was acting it would be hard for me to believe it was anything but suicide," she said. According to Bell, Webb had been unhappy for some time over his inability to get a job at another major newspaper. He had sold his house the week before his death because he was unable to afford the mortgage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lIqNjC1RKU

I don't think it's particularly hard to get prescriptions for opiates anyway. You just need to go to a doctor who's loose with the scrips and say you're in pain Like my Hispanic neighborhood dentist I used to go to. I got a cavity filled and after at the check out desk "Are you in pain? Do you need pain killer prescription?" My friend got a oxycontin prescription and a couple of refills like that

Yeah I guess that's why I'm wondering if straight up legalizing it would create more addicts. Don't they point to over prescribing of painkillers as being a cause of the current epidemic? A friend of mine died last month from heroin and this epidemic has been on my mind a lot lately. I sure as poo poo don't have any good ideas on what the answers are though. Not even the slightest clue.

Don't they point to over prescribing of painkillers as being a cause of the current epidemic? Well you start by getting rid of the DEA and treating addictions like an illness rather than a crime. Rehab instead of prisons, etc. But that requires a good public health system and less corruption soooo

Aren't a lot of the ODs from people getting inconsistent doses because their source is a random guy in a parking lot rather than a rigorously regulated professional laboratory? I thought the whole problem was something like doctors over proscribe, people get addicted, they get their proscription cut because lol you don't need 3 months worth of oxy for a cavity fill. Then they end up getting stuck in the usual black market shenanigans of shady dealers and scam artists.
