Lipstick Apathy

It costs a lot of money to have a senior advisor on staff. With this extra cash we will be able to sign George Goorgo to be Karlsson's partner. If not for this they were considering just running 5 D to save money.

Shatty signing for under market value with the Rangers is the least surprising thing this offseason.

I have to think there's at least one team out there willing to give Jagr a million bucks and 10 minutes of ice time.

Kinda surprised he's not already a Red Wing really

Hunwick eh? His fancies don't seem too bad, but I'm not sure I like 3 years for a 32 year old defenseman whose only attribute is skating. Niemi for 700k is whatever. Our offense can bail him out enough to win a few games.

How good/bad is Hartnell now?

He was the victim of a team getting younger in Columbus but probably still good for 15-20 goals at least. Worth a shot for $1M for a year.

I had a fantasy scenario of PK and Fartsmell on the same team and got it, just not on my team.

If the rumoured deal of Gudbranson for Demers was true, getting that trade through wouldn't merely be "good", it would have been an honest to god miracle.

It does, however, mean that Vancouver is trying to trade that useless lump which is good news in and of itself.

It was Shattenkirk who came to the Rangers with the 4x6.65 proposal :eyepop::

Brooksie posted:

Saturday, the world spun 180 degrees when Kevin Shattenkirk, a New Rochelle native and resident who always dreamed of wearing the Blueshirt, gladly took less to come to Broadway.

The fact is that the 28-year-old defenseman made the Rangers an offer they ultimately could not refuse, $26.6 million over four years for a $6.65 million cap hit per. Yes, in a complete reversal of the norm, the proposal was made to the organization by the free agent even as other offers rolled into him for far more money on longer-term deals.

The Rangers have to be moving or buying out someone now. They have a jammed blueline:

McD - Shattenkirk
Skjei - Smith
some combo of Staal, Holden, DeAngelo, Berezglazov, Kampfer, and Poink. I don't think they got DeAngelo and Berezglazov to have them play 7D or down in Hartford. Also, Berezglazov had a contract option to return to Russia if they put him in the A.

I wonder if one of those Dmen is packaged with a forward for another top 6 centerman.

the Rangers called about Tyson Berrie, and Colorado wanted Skjei haha

A few days ago I said I'd like to see Staal back as the pens 3C, and I just read a story on a Pittsburgh hockey site suggesting that is actually a possibility.

I don't think it will happen, but could actually see Rutherford and Francis dealing. JR has said they will trade for a 3C, and he does love him some Staal, but Carolina would have to eat way to much salary for that to happen, I think.

I can't even come up with an equitable trade for the pens, where they don't drastically lose out on the deal.

Carter Rowney is the 3C and is going to be as good as Bonino was. They need a 4C and if there isn't one in WBS then they should make a minor trade for one and be done.

I mean if they can hilariously rip the Canes off then power to them, but apart from that, bringing back Jordan Staal when he's old and expensive because he's a big name and had good times there long ago is the kind of thing bad organizations do. The bottom two lines are for young and/or cheap guys who can play adequate hockey.
