When you get rolling, it is such a rewarding experience. Just got out of a game where our squad made #4 (#3?). The whole way to the end circles, we were just calling shots on other squads every few seconds, pushing their poo poo in, then rolling up to the next one and repeating. I lost count of how many other groups we utterly hosed up. It wasn't until one of the last circles that we finally ran out of decent cover and got sniped. Winning would have been awesome, but it still feels good to be a gangsta.

I tend to play rather survivalist, so long games with few kills. Team games really let you take risks and have some fun. Multiple players have a much greater situational awareness, you can cover each other, trade items, and getting revived is always nice. Plus, when something stupid kills you, you can all just laugh about it together. Solo games made me feel like I'm just awful at this game, but as soon as I had a buddy to watch my back I was racking up kills and making it to the final circle easy. #3 on my first ever team game, and a chicken dinner on my second.

I don't like watching grimmmz much, simply because of the complaining. Anthony is cool though. Other high level streamers that I occasionally watch are C9 Sweaterr, TSM Viss, TSM BreaK, C9 Chappie (though he's a dick as well) and I really enjoy watching JackFrags, Matimi0 and to a lesser extent Stodeh but they don't nearly stream PUBG as much as the other ones. e: fixed some links Lex Neville fucked around with this message at 03:48 on Jul 2, 2017 |

Had my first win yesterday. 3 man squad. I killed 3 people so I wasn't a complete anchor this time. One of us died about halfway through but it was good as he was able to give us strategic advice. We got into some protracted firefights and didn't die, I actually shot some people which was pretty crazy and our movement was a lot cleverer. A couple of the other squads made some mistakes toward the end as well which helped us. What a loving game though

Picked this up because F13 is starting to get a little stale for me. It's uh. Something else. I joined the discord so hopefully some goons can help me git gud. I've made it into the top 20s a few times, but I don't think I've ever had more than 3 kills in a game and it typically happens very early game for me.

Are there any indicators where you are being shot from or is it just that you're hosed if you don't have fancy surround headsets? I feel like 90 percent of my deaths have been a bullet or 5 coming out of nowhere and I have so little time to react, and even if cover is available I have no idea which direction I'm being shot from.

Huh. I was just wondering because all of the guides I've been reading are like, "don't shoot with an unsuppressed weapon unless you're sure of your target, because YOU WILL GIVE YOUR POSITION AWAY." So, uh, I guess you know someone is shooting at you but there are no modern shooter contrivances to give you any loving clue where the fire is coming from.

Something else to keep in mind is that the crack of a bullet passing near you does not necessarily indicate where the bullet came from, only what side it passed you on. You need to listen for the sound of the gunshot itself, which depending on the range can lag behind the crack of the bullet. This is easier said than done a lot of the time, I realize. Most of the time you'll just have to do your best anticipating where shots might come from and act accordingly in order to avoid getting ambushed like that.

When I first started playing this game and would get shot my reaction, like most people, was to just run around wildly and hope whoever was shooting missed me cuz I couldn't figure out where they were. But if you make a conscious effort to move the camera a bit when you're getting shot at in the future the direction of the gunshot gets a lot easier to pin down

The trick is to not pay attention to the bullet crack. The crack of the (supersonic) bullet is a message that you should listen out for the actual gunshot (which only travels at the speed of sound, so you'll hear it after the actual bullet goes past) Unless you're some weird mutant with more than two ears, you only hear in stereo. You should figure out where gunshots are coming from the same way you figure out where noises are coming from in the real world - by looking around and letting your big monkey brain work its signal processing magic to localize the source of the sound.

They're not telling you to twist the camera so you'd visually spot where the shot is coming from, they're telling you to do it because it increases your ability to audio-locate the source of the gunfire significantly. here science: http://journal.frontiersin.org/article/10.3389/fnins.2014.00210/full

No, also I don't think this game supports surround sound. Most of us just have head sets, move your head around when being shot at, you can usually figure out what direction the shots are coming from fairly fast if you wiggle a bit. Positioning and planning a route ahead are very important, try to make sure that you are never away from cover to begin with. Also, tree's/bushes might be the most obvious source of cover but small changes in terrain are frankly way more useful so keep an eye on the ground around you and think about how it might affect line of sight.

I'm pretty sure they are never going to do 5.1 sound in the game. It's always going to be stereo. It takes a bit of time but swinging the camera around while shots are going off makes finding the direction pretty easy.

Just got into the top ten for the first time, so I guess I'm doing something right. You're definitely at a disadvantage if you have bad luck and have to go across half the island for the first circle. It's much easier to be the guys that happen to be in the middle of it and can wait to pick you off. I guess them's the breaks. I'm getting better at finding my shooters but it still seems off to me that in a game where you can die so quickly you don't get any directional assistance other than sound.

Taking cover. Locating shooters. Anything to help the player would essentially be undermining the skill component of a game. If someone does a great job of concealing themselves, then well done them. You need to move to counteract that. Pay attention to the world for open doors, discarded vehicles, etc. sometimes you'll get wrecked by luck, but good players win more than bad ones, the bests mitigate their luck through hundreds of little lessons in failure.

I think I am really starting too like flashbangs. I just killed a guy hiding behind a vehicle using one to blind/deafen him in order to run up and kill him. Of course I then stupidly got out of a vehicle I found in the middle of a field, and it was 100 feet from another guy in a vehicles I didn't see who sniped my rear end before I could hit him a second time. I really need to work on my 8x scope compensation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO9sYuooQdI

I specifically aim to drop at far corners/sides of the map in hopes the circle will be as far away from me as possible. This way with a car and a few meds I can loot for about 5 minutes straight and not have to worry about some rando in the bathroom with a shotgun who heard me coming. There's a lot less luck in this game than you think, one streamer and his squad won 10 in a row and consistently make top 5. Of course their aim is decent but it's their decision making that carries them every time. thehandtruck fucked around with this message at 08:31 on Jul 2, 2017 |
