That being said I'm with Ninpo, I don't think it's a controversial opinion to expect a player to be better at 23 than at 16, especially after playing first-team football at the highest level for most of that time (and at two different clubs, both supposedly renowned for developing youth talent).

Both very very different types of players than the Ox though.

Strikers/poachers seem like they peak a little later, part of that could just be because they get better and anticipating where to be.

I mean, he has improved. He just hasn't become world class.

Also, on the topic of players improving in their mid-20's, I remember Xabi Alonso getting a lot better at around 25.

He signed a pre-contract for Trabzonspor years back and took a 100k down payment before signing for Hamburg, so he was barred from playing since February.

So uuh have fun his freekicks.

Southampton have signed Jan Bednarek from Lech Poznan. I know nothing about him except that he's a defender and that I'm braced for countless people saying he's our van Dijk replacement.

He's the cornerstone of Lech's defense. Which doesn't really mean much, considering they have lost all three games against us this year. Solid potential, but far from a finished article. Bench and reserve material for now, imo.

You already have Sturridge and Coutinho to fill that role.
