I wonder if they would rebox if they got some pressure. They reboxed several Sigmarine kits at a lower price point per model earlier this year.

If they released a budget line of mono-pose kits at a significantly lower price point they'd make a lot of poorer players happy and it'd greatly lower the barrier of entry to a hobby that is generally more expensive than cocaine

Yeah, between this and the Shield Drone / Savior Protocol change. I get the feeling a lot of this was snap judgment "makes sense" decisions. They wanted to make things more fair or consistent without considering long term impacts.

Didn't they used to do this?

I remember back in 4th ed bulking up my guard collection by buying these boxes of 5 monopose cadians for like $6-8, back when infantry boxes were 20 models for $35.

Yeah but that's saving you like a few dollars at most and the prices for horde armies are still loving ridiculous

Technically speaking they already have a "budget line" in the form of the Dark Vengeance and Dark Imperium boxes that both give you two complete starter armies per box but it'd be cool if they could do that for non-marine/Chaos armies

I think it'd be cool if they made multiple mix-and-match starter bundles. Like, you get the Dark Imperium Marines vs. Chaos set, or the Endless War Ork vs. Tyranid set, or the Greater Good Tau vs. Imperium set. Each costs the same price, and you can buy it either bundled together in one box or in halves to mix and match. A bigger, less complex Start Collecting box, in essence, more for players than hobbyists.

Heck, take the Dark Imperium box design and make it similarly matching half-boxes. A grim-faced Commissar next to a stern Ethereal. A roaring Carnifex paired with an Ork in mid-Waaagh!

Because we all play in a competitive tournament environment and after 25 years we are sick and tired of GW games being the only games where having to pick and choose which of the poorly written basic loving game rules we're going to ignore is a touted feature and just play the game as it stands, warts and all.

E: and it's not an obtuse interpretation, it's a black and white revision of the rules straight from the horse's mouth.

I do see your point and I agree that warts'n'all is the more sensible way to play the game, given the number of weird interactions. But I'm very aware that to the guys who write GW lovely rules, this is only meant to apply when you the player don't physically have any more models to finish off the unit. So that little Timmy can use his 5-man terminator squad even though one of them got lost, crushed or eaten by the dog. Not so competitive players can leverage a separate detachment of 5 models to feed their main force Command Points. That's what I meant by obtuse.

Speaking of eBay, it is now the only place (beyond stocked local shops and other re-seller sites of course) to get Vespids, Kroot, Kroot Hounds and Shapers. Heck even regular drones are sold out on the main page. They will obviously restock in the future but dang, the new rules really favor them something fierce.

Not that Vespids were super easy to get a hold of anyway before. Most shops didn't tend to stock them because they sucked. Now they can't stock them because they hadn't had many to go around in the first place. I had tried collecting some because I liked the model and could only ever get a hold of metal ones. There goes any chance of them lowering the price.

How reliable are the rumors posted on Faeit212?

They posted something today about some new Primaris stuff that's been seen:

Faeit212 posted:

- Primaris Apothecary
- Interceptor Squad with what looks like short range dual plasma cannons
- A second variant of the hover tank which had weapon sponsons where the doors are on the side
- and a new unit which looks like a cross between a Primaris marine and a centurion it had those new missile packs u see on the tank and dreadnought but on the shoulders of the new unit like how typhoon missile launchers are on terminators. They were carrying heavy weapons I assume its their version of a dev squad.
- Bolter Reivers which actually look really really cool.

I really hope they don't string out the Primaris releases over the course of 2 or 3 months. That's kinda irritating.

How do the bolter Reivers look so far? Are we talking shotgun-style weaponry, or stalker bolters? Some snipers for assassinating characters could really round out the Primaris' current setup, especially with more heavy weapon squads and proper transports coming.

Also crossing my fingers for a drop pod, since Primaris not getting something so iconic is silly.

Generic version: Bone washed with agrax earthshade, then everything but the recesses redone with bone.

Specific: Golden High Flow Acrylic 'Titan Buff' airbrushed(for convenience mostly) on over white primer, then washed with agrax earthshade. Then retouched with Golden Fluid Acrylic Titan Buff. The high flow acrylics are a wee bit too runny to use with a brush unless you're just doing an undercoat as they get a bit hard to control.

You'd have to experiment a little with other bone colors, but it should work fine. Titan Buff is just a nice warm cream color I like for this. (Plus I work across the street from an art store most days, so I can get artist paints quicker than model paints, and I love the golden high flow ones for airbrushing.

Spearhead Detachment

Malanthrope
Exocrine
Trygon
Trygon

The gaunts all deploy underground with the Trygons and deliver bombs of shooting. Hive Tyrant flys around and messes stuff up. Genestealers charge upfield with Patriarch Escorts. Exocrines sit back being babysat by the malanthrope to allow them to shoot at what they want, and get a bit of protection from shooting themselves. I COULD ambush the genestelears, but I think the odds of getting a bad roll on the chart could bite me hard in a few games, plus, the genestelears are useful for bubblewrapping things turn 1 to prevent turn 1 charges against my exocrines and Hive Tyrant. And with 12 units to deploy, I'm not getting to go first.

Which is one thing I've found, is that without having dedicated transports, other than Tyrannocytes, which I think are overcosted, and require to be in reserve, so you can't stick your whole army in them due to the half your army on the table rule, Tyranids struggle to come in with fewer deployments than the enemy. I've gone second in almost every game I've played. Though it honestly hasn't felt like that much of a handicap, as I also haven't lost a game with them yet. Just makes it so I'm always deploying defensively.

Also, painted up these handsome fellas yesterday.

Someone may have mentioned it but it seems like you're mixing gsc and tyranids in the same detachment, which means the GSC lose ambush. Unless I'm reading wrong

I'm sure everyone's tired of seeing it, but I rebased the Ghorgon to match the bases of the rest of the army.

If you are wondering what's going on with the knight on the base- I got a little carried away and put in one of my halloween LED candles. First, I cut through all of the vents, then I cut a hole in the bottom. Tossed in a band of plasticard, one half painted black (facing the outside) to keep the light from escaping where I didn't want it, and also painted the surrounding parts of the inside with chrome to reflect more. The plasticard conveniently does double-duty by providing tension that holds the 'candle' in place. For the interior, I just cut up some old industrial bases to make walls.

I think as I recall as long as a unit has the keyword "Imperium" you can field it together with other Imperium units without much hassle. So you'd be able to field stuff like Astra Militarum or marines or mechanicus without much fuss.

You could probably set up an army in battlescribe (but sometimes that isn't great with figuring out if you can take a unit or not). There is probably a list someplace that lets you figure out just what sort of units you could want to take that doesn't go into the sort of details you might see in a proper , paid for rulebook.
