"Hi Everybody!"
In Australia we had a local Kinder Surprise knockoff in the form of a chocolate Bunyip-esque creature called a Yowie with a toy capsule inside.

I bring this up for fellow Ausgoons, because Yowies seem to have risen from the grave to stalk the candy isles of K-Mart.

Its carryover from the 80s when everything got super bright and neon.

And look how busy the backgrounds are! They're afraid to have solid colors, they have to have squiggles and splotches everywhere.

Hell yeah!! I still use mine every day, for the alarm. I love the fact that I can set it up (I don't do this, but could) to crank up in the morning, playing Slayer or Pantera at full volume every day if I wanted to.

I know where there is another one still going strong, its slightly different than mine, but then the one I pictured isn't exactly the same either. They must have had a few minor changes throughout the run....

Yep, that was def. late '80s to early '90s; by the middle of the decade, it seemed like everything was all neutral tones and faded bleakness, reflecting the mopey grunginess of gen X.

Don't forget about the mid 90's obsession with teal, burgundy, salmon pink and that dark forest green. Pretty sure every third car sold back then was that green color, with gold badging if you got the luxury model. Pretty much any mall food court from then is a good example of that color scheme too.

Yeah you can really divide the 90s into the "pre-Nirvana" and "post-Nirvana" fashions.

Everybody was wearing flannel and long-sleeve shirts under t-shirts. And yeah, everything was suddenly faded colors, no more brights. Dark red, black, brown and green.

This is what Vogue magazine looked like in the "post-Nirvana" era

There is a hair salon in my tiny hometown that latched on to the pink-and-teal on black-and-white Duran Duran album cover aesthetic and clings to it to this day. Even the outside of the storefront is alternating stripes of black, white and pink.

I associate that look with the 80's more than the 90's. I still see those Duran Duran things on salons fairly often. I always wonder if they're still selling those decals or if they've all just been there since 1985.

Always thought that style was pretty cool actually. I enjoyed the look of that Moonbeam City show alot. The writing... Not so much.

Yeah I was just about to bring up moonbeam city.

That's all copied from the aesthetic of Patrick Nagel (just google image search the name) which is definitely more of an 80s thing.

A lot of stuff in the 2000s was dark blue and green, like a David Fincher movie. If you look at the first episode of Law & Order SVU, you can see how it's all burnt orange and brown like a lot of stuff around 2003. Then it got all blue and green! Seems like every decade has its color scheme.

Oh man Wild and Crazy Kids.

The colors!

And Nickelodeon GUTS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THuOzYo51EY

super bright colors everywhere.

Which reminds me of that one popsicle commercial that was constantly playing on Nickelodeon in the 90s:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwlMHJE82Mk

The big thing with color palettes that I kinda hate is how everything post 2000 has to go with the orange/blue contrast. Movies are all orange/blue color filtered now (The Hobbit was especially bad). The pilot of House MD did a really weird color saturation thing with orange and blue and browns and sepias, and used really low lighting. They didn't actually end up using it for the rest of the show, its kinda weird:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FanXU570rYc

Towards the end of the pilot it starts to feel like a Halloween palette; orange and black.

If you look at 90s Eurodance videos you can see the same thing happening. It went from offensively bright colours and having fun to guys in shades looking serious about music they were making for proto-chavs to get handjobs to in Ibiza.

Nunawading isn't exactly what you'd call a great suburb, either. It's the kind of place you either avoid, or pity people for having to live there. Especially as being an outer suburb means it's primo Bogan country (Aussie Fuckin' Rednecks, Mate).

I'm really annoyed that baggy jeans hasn't come back. I'm 6'4" and a size 15 shoe and I look so loving doofy in tight jeans. When I wore jncos in the 90s I loved it because it hid how stupid my sneakers looked (even if I was wearing the new Jordans I was self conscious how they looked when I wore shorts).

The closest I can find now are Carhart baggy on Amazon but even those would be considered skinny jeans in the 90s. I recognize how ridiculous jnco was but maybe there can be some middle ground???

Yeah I always liked JNCOs just for the comfort of them. I really hate skinny jeans.

I've been wanting somebody to make like, denim samurai hakama pants for awhile now. Just big poofy pants but still jeans. I don't want fabric constantly squeezing my legs!

I have a pair of 36 jeans that are actually less tight and more comfortable than some 38s I usually wear. They're pretty old so they should have shrunk in the wash or something by now, but they just stay fairly loose as the rest of my jeans get tighter over time. Jeans are weird, man.

Jean companies have very different interpretations of what constitutes 36 inches. God help you if you wear an odd number size (I wear 31s when I can find them, 32s when I can't, which is basically all the time.)
