Hey so I really love the new Gong Show. People doing crazy poo poo never gets old, and Mike Meyers doing a character somehow adds to the vibe of it instead of just being distracting.

EDIT: I don't think I ever expected to witness a situation that inspired Elizabeth Banks to ask, out loud, on a show airing on the Disney-owned American Broadcasting Company, "Is the cake going to go into her cooch?"

You know what seems to be the common denominator with all these acts? It loving loves these people. Even if they go to the gong, even with all the poo poo they talk, the judges (and the audience!) have genuine admiration for these guys strapping up and doing their thing on national television.

There's no other place in the world where a guy can dress up in a bunny suit, call himself Snax, and do a fairly clean stand-up act with his voice pitched way up. It's enough for that poo poo to exist; it doesn't even matter that it wasn't particularly good enough to add to the mountain of embeds that are probably choking this page. God bless The Gong Show, man.

I love that recently America's Got Talent got busted just straight-up using CGI to sweeten up a magician's act. Like, there's fake and then there's fake,

I know this has happened in the past, but I can't recall any specific examples (maybe The Following, eventually?) If the reviewer hates it and the pageviews are consistently lousy, they're more than eager to drop coverage.

Captain D is a pretty interesting Youtube channel as Alan Melikdjanian has a deep background in VFX work and is able to thoroughly explain what's going on with videos.

Yeah, I avoided him for a while just because of the whole Power Rangers villain getup but that's mostly just something he does to get kids interested, the actual VFX stuff is great and he does a good job presenting it.

I've always enjoyed the AvClub, so it's a shame to see that it's kind of just turning into Uproxx. I know it's going to be lol worthy but I legitimately enjoyed their wrestling reviews even while I wasn't watching anymore, but after a time they were made to change it to bullet-points instead because they just want the comments. They also ended their SUPERNATURAL coverage despite the fact that it was one of their most commented upon shows. Nearly every other news item is Trump (Because comments) and most of the best writers have all left.

I remember AV Club recapped and reviewed TNG and DS9 in their entirety back to back, and I followed them along as I was watching both shows for the first time.

But other than that I never really followed their TV articles. I mainly enjoyed the music ones. I liked the "We're No. 1" feature.

Yeah I miss their wrestling coverage too. The people they had doing the reviews had a fun perspective on analyzing the characters and story arcs. Wrestling's already ridiculous and closer examination just brings that more to light.

I really liked their Undercover series, of having bands come in and picking from a random list of songs to create a cover of. Some of them get real weird, some of them get real awesome. the best ones get both. I hope this is something that sticks around.

I never really followed that feature but from what I did see, it seemed to be a pretty even split between pretty cool covers and Radio 1 Live Lounge "We're so indie and we're so above this dumb pop poo poo :smug:" stuff.

and Iron & Wine covering "One More Try"

It's about time for my once per decade ban for being a consistently terrible poster.
I'm pretty sure the best one was the Mountain Goats cover of "Boxcar", because the man went for it.

E: Which was the real problem with the series, how many seemed to half rear end it. Granted they didn't get to just choose their song, and the list could get pretty dire towards the end.

The best Undercover was Philly Boy Roy covering Styx, because - despite the video description explaining that it's John Wurster, in character, promoting the Best Show box set available now - per the comments and the like/dislike ratio, much of the audience didn't get it.

Netflix just sent me an email about a show called Friends From College - a sitcom created by Nicholas Stoller and starring Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Fred Savage, and others which premieres this Friday. I have never heard of this show before. Am I slacking or is peak TV just getting to be too much?
