You do, when your mon gets defeated and leaves the gym it brings back coins. One coin per 10 minutes spent in the gym, limit 50 coins received per day.

Well you don't need to actually claim, the mon takes care of it for you.

I guess I sorta see what the "incentive" is for attacking gyms—increase your Gym Badge experience to get Bronze/Silver/Gold, which in turn will net you more items. If your team is holding down that gym, you get even more items. Problem is, more items doesn't seem to be as rewarding as getting rarer items. I wouldn't mind taking down gyms on the regular, if the reward bonus for all my hard work is spinning at least a few Lucky Eggs/Incense/Lures/Evolution items as a Gold/Team bonus.

Where as before the scene was kind of dead, and most people probably just played for a few minutes out of habit, I've been to many, many raids in the past week and a half, and gyms are actually changing hands again, and the game is fun.

Likewise here. But of course my city's PoGo Facebook page is full of some idiot whining because he and nine of his friends can't hold all the gyms in the city on a permanent basis anymore.

Think of it this way. If a gym rotated between teams every eight hours like clockwork, the theoretical payout would be 18 players * 48 coins = 864 coins per day that Niantic is giving out for free. Contrast that with the previous system, where the aforementioned idiot and his friends all hold a gym for a day, for a payout of 10 players * 10 coins = 100 coins. That's a serious increase in the (at least theoretical) amount of freebies that Niantic is giving out, and they're spread out a lot more evenly among all players, not just held by the most dedicated 1%.

Psion posted:

What I'd like is a way to directly recall pokemon to collect (which weakens a gym which makes a takeover simpler for the other teams) and/or a direct coin reward for taking enemy gyms.

It would be very easy to blend this with the current system: 10 coins for dropping a Pokemon in a gym, plus x amount over time that you hold the gym. That way if you get booted out 15 minutes later, you still get just as many coins as you would have gotten for holding the gym an entire day under the old system.

I think it's just noticeable by team. Where I live, blue absolutely dominated and it wasn't worth trying to get more than 10 coins because gyms would be flipped back so fast. I never held more than 3 gyms at any point ever, since I was on red. Now I'm able to get in gyms for a few hours to days since the stranglehold is gone, and I don't need to spend 10-20 minutes trying to earn ten cents. I've gotten more coins since the revamp that I usually earned in 2 months, especially with how easy it is to throw guys into newly opened gyms.

So if you were red or yellow, it's a huge benefit, if you were an active blue player at high level it probably sucks.

There is an XP bonus for each stop you havent' spun before the gym update; those have a 'halo' around them. So if you've spun a stop recently but she hasn't, she would get more XP. Can't say about the other stuff.

They're already starting to, so this wouldn't change much. Adding a cooldown on returning a pokemon to that gym could also address it. As in, if you get kicked out naturally you can retake immediately, if you deliberately recall you're out of that gym for x hours.

Rastor

They just need to add some kind of marker to indicate gyms that are stagnant and a bounty for taking them over, as was mentioned even a small amount of stardust would do it.

This would be cool. Or even boot people out when they're max gold (50). Just keep the cap on the gold so people could get in when they can and not worry about them trying to max out their gym limits for no gain and it would keep the gym game fresh.

There's a new interview on Verge with John Hanke. I thought these two bits in particular were interesting:

quote:

When you look at where the game is now, and compare it to your initial road map, how similar are the two?

We lost probably six months on our schedule because of the success of the game. Really all the way through November and December, from launch onward we were rebuilding and rewiring infrastructure just to keep the game running at the scale that we were running at. We were fortunate to have a massive launch, a massive success, and many, many more users than we had planned for. But we had to redirect a substantial portion of the engineering team to [work on] infrastructure versus new features. That switched off things like extending gyms, it pushed out things we still want to have, like player-versus-player and trading. I’d say we’re about six months behind where we thought we would be.

Can you talk a bit about some of the times you did diverge from that road map you had based on the feedback you received?

There are features that weren’t on the original road map that really grew out of that feedback and back-and-forth with players. The gym badges, the way that whole system works, that’s something that grew out of the dialogue with players. The changes we made to combat in gyms — there are more coming, but the ones that we shipped this month were based on just watching how the mechanics around gyms played out. It ended up being heavily weighted toward the upper 1 percent of users, so gyms had become something that weren’t really accessible to low-level players, and weren’t very dynamic in terms of there being turnover and opportunities for people to have a chance to have a pokémon in a gym.

Went to local park this morning, all the gyms were already Valor and fed. So I headed home, tried to do some dirty pour art and bubble art, and in between raging over the fact everything I do should be on NailedIt (save for one. I FINALLY FIGURED OUT MY FUCKUPS FOR DIRTY POUR.), went to the bathroom, opened the app, and a Mareep greeted me.

So worth not staying at the park for.

I saw more stuff about the Chicago event, with special 2k eggs that might have regionals in them. Part of me is pissed I can't go. A smarter park is glad because gently caress walking a dozen or more 2k eggs in one day only to get a dozen Geodudes and maybe one Tauros.

This bit of news has popped up on both Eurogamer and Serebii, but I haven't seen an official announcement yet. Probably later today.

quote:

To celebrate Pokémon GO’s one-year anniversary, Niantic and The Pokémon Company today revealed that from now through July 13, Trainers will be able to find and catch Pikachu wearing Ash’s famous hat from the Pokémon animated series. A new featured store item, the Anniversary Box, which contains Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls and a Raid Pass, will also be available for a limited time through the in-game shop at a discounted price.

e: Okay, it's official. Apparently it lasts through July 24, not July 13.

quote:

It’s hard to believe that Pokémon GO launched just a year ago, and what an amazing year it’s been! Since joining us last July, you’ve demonstrated the true power of Pokémon GO and augmented reality gaming by searching for Pokémon in the real world, exploring on foot, building new friendships, and discovering new places right in your own neighborhoods. Throughout this incredible journey, you’ve caught over 125 billion Pokémon and made countless memories along the way. But there are many more adventures still to come.

Just a few weeks ago, the one-year anniversary celebration kicked off with a bang. You and millions of other Trainers went outside to battle in revamped Gyms and participate in Raid Battles with family and friends for the first time, but this was only the beginning of an action-packed couple of months. The celebration continues with a special Pikachu wearing a familiar hat appearing all over the world. From July 6 at 1:00 P.M. PDT to July 24 at 1:00 P.M. PDT, Pikachu discovered in the wild will be wearing Ash’s famous hat from the Pokémon animated series, so make sure you don’t miss out on your opportunity to catch one! You’ll also be able to stock up for Raid Battles and the events ahead with the special limited-time Anniversary Box, which will include Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls, and Raid Passes at a discount in the in-game shop.

Stay tuned for even more exciting news over the coming weeks, including additional information on Pokémon GO Fest Chicago this July, events hosted at select Unibail-Rodamco locations this August and September in Europe, and Pokémon GO events at the Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama, Japan, this August!

Event should start in 5 hours.
