Next time CNN should just do a human interest article on whatever TD shitlord gets retweeted by Trump because of news worthiness.

So in your vision of events, every single time Trump retweets a meme, a crack team of CNN journalists tries to pinpoint its source, and this is just the one and only time they've succeeded? Even though he sometimes retweets *known* white supremacists whose names are out there, and that's never been a front page headline?

The degree to which you're contorting to ignore the obvious conclusion (CNN went after his meme personally because it was so actively anti-CNN) is both baffling and maddening. Why is it so hard to imagine that CNN might take particular umbrage at someone directly threatening them?

I thought part of his whole Cross Check plan was to find people with the same first and last name (especially minority last names, like Lopez) registered in multiple states, declare they were the same person and challenge their registrations? If you had SSN/DOB you could in theory actually make sure they weren't the same person, but if nobody releases those then you can muddy the waters up massively, shedding doubt on registrations and providing cover for horrible pieces of poo poo like Kobach to purge their voter registrations. The whole point is to cast doubt, at least for now, and provide justifications for the same kind of Jim Crow voter hurdles that the South used to use.
As I recall from a podcast or something that was talking about Crosscheck, it has the capacity to use SSN/DOB/middle name/etc to minimize erroneous matches.

Most of these fields were explicitly and intentionally left blank.

e: Also there's a deeper reason for sticking to names only - minorities have a much smaller pool of common surnames and so get over-represented if you're looking for "matches" this way. Someone analyzed the 7 million(!) "potential double votes" that Crosscheck flagged back in 2014 and found white voter names underrepresented by 8%, but African Americans overrepresented by 45%, Hispanics by 24%, and Asians by 31%.

Incidentally, if you want to see what Crosscheck looks like when it's implemented with non-malicious goals in mind, it's ERIC. Software was developed by IBM and the Pew Charitable Trusts, it's governed & managed by the states that join, it actually uses multiple checks for accuracy, and its a requirement of membership that a) if someone's info is found to be inaccurate, the state contacts them to remedy that and b) when provided with a list of people that may be eligible but not registered, they contact them with info on how to register.
