The worst part is that you're very obviously supposed to be cheering for Vader. Somebody described it as like if a Civil War movie had a scene where Robert Lee drew his cavalry saber and started murdering American soldiers and it was super cool and badass

In Rogue One, the pretty space planes and space walking tanks were the shamrock shakes, and the plot and characters were the cardboard cup tray. But you're supposed to eat the tray too? I think the simile works.

To answer your main question, it would've been filmed cheap, and looked cheap.

ive finally watched Alien Covenant, and i literally lolled when the baby xenomorph stood up on its spindly long legs. It looked like an awkward marionette. the chestburster in original alien was a pretty simple and silly prop, but it was shot effectively, here they just linger on that loving ridiculous thing that looks like its gonna keel over and snap in half
