So, Chomsky blames Obama for not being sufficiently progressive? Doesn't he know what is going in Europe? Doesn't Chomsky know about the fact that people in Germany and France do not want either a radical leftist or radical rightist government but a government focusing on practicality?

I'm not really sure how Judaism is really that noteworthy a part of Chomsky's philosophy either to the point where he "cannot bear anything to do" with atheism despite apparently also being a Soviet tankie  They kinda fixated on that a little bit

why is it that "pragmatism" is only used in defense of right wing extremism like austerity, standing against gay marriage, and senseless militarism

Communism will help more white people than anyone else. Any equal measures unfairly provide less to minority populations just because there's less of them. Democracy is truly the tyranny of the mob.

Sort of strange how it was post-WWII government programs like massive infrastructure spending and the GI Bill which gave boomers a life of prosperity.

However once they got wealth, they decided to vote away any help to the following generations especially with how they became Fox New's main viewer audience.

That, and also in structural terms it doesn't make much sense. You are going to challenge the rights and privileges of the elite/aristocracy while largely leaving their power intact, in control of virtually all the production and finance of the country? Yeah, big loving mystery it was incomplete and been in the process of being rolled back.

That Chomsky relies on this while pointing to the twin myths of a "free country" and his apparent belief in the hidden power of our republic means he is finished as a thinker. He isn't even observing reality anymore.

First I liked Chomsky, then I heard about his record on Cambodia ... and then I read up on how his actual position on the Khmer Rouge tended to be misrepresentative of him and liked him again ... and then he started peddling Seymour Hersh's Syria conspiracy theories ... but man, I think I have to look past that, too.

thing with cambodia is it was so loving repressive there was no actual news out of it for years except for the occasional refugee that managed to get out, and their stories seemed so over the top no one actually believed them. they also got no coverage in the US press because we were indirectly allied with the khmer rouge because they were allied with china vs vietnam and the soviets, so it was inconvenient for the US gov. in fact the US continued to indirectly (and possibly directly) support the khmer rouge long after they were overthrown and their crimes were well known, basically until the end of the cold war and vietnam became our trade partners and allies and they kr were no longer useful

im not sure about chomsky's position of the kr but a lot of leftists fell into the trap of defending them, see: leftists rallying around assad

I notice lots of older people believing in some hidden power in the republic as well, where if people just work long enough (with no indications for how long) and hard enough(with again, no further qualification) then the magical apparatus of the republic will spring to life and start churning out policies that are diametrically opposed to probably 90% of the legislative and policy outcomes of the country.

It's like a boomer/silent thoughtform merging with the protestant work ethic and a constellation of national myths.
