Gravity heels are an adventure. I wore some one year to dress as a faun for Faerieworlds and walking in them is a very odd sensation.

I have to imagine those are hell on your calves?

I say this as a guy who has never worn heels, let alone heel-less heels, but I'm trying to imagine what balancing in those would be like and I imagine calf cramps within the first hour

I've worn them, but they were a cheap, borrowed pair, not well made. They hurt my feet so much (from the steep upwards angle from toe to heel, that hurts in heels with solid platforms, walking sort-of-on-tipetoe didn't hell) that I didn't have time to get sore calves. Maybe two hours.

Although I imagine the designer / well made ones don't hurt, or hurt less at least. That's how it is with regular heels of whatever type. And the reason pricey stripper shoes are a huge industry.

I actually just received my new 300 from Mars Hydro. Quieter than my other light and not as harsh on the eyes. I have new plants starting so we'll see if there's much of a difference.

Tools aren't really a good thing to buy from China because they are usually made of too hard or too soft of steel, so screwdrivers strip screws or the bit breaks after a few uses. Some dremel attachments are ok and things like socket sets can be ok but I'm not sure there are enough useful tools to fill out a section. There's a serious answer for you friend

As a user a frequent user of Harbor Freight tools, I gotta say this sounds familiar. Nothing wrong with cheap disposable tools. Just have to be aware of what you're using is all.

This. I mean, I purchase a fair amount of tools from Harbor Freight, and Ugh is correct, you have to remember what you're buying. A wheel puller? Yeah, probably. A hammer? Certainly. I mean, how can you gently caress up a hammer? A bench belt sander? Sure, why not, all it has to do is spin a sanding belt. But, anything at all where you require exactness (i.e. three axis mill, metal lathe, drill press), I'm definitely of the camp that spends more money, to get a quality piece of machinery.

Yeah, it's all a function of what it's for. I don't really care if the tools in my kit in my car "last" because their job is to hang out in my trunk in case I ever need them. However, my house screwdriver is a proper screwdriver and has gone on many adventures.

Grizzly and others sell the same lathe HF sells, but for $200 more. It's $200 more because they pay more for QC and lower return rates at the same Chinese factory HF uses. Same with any precision machinery they sell.

Wait, I'm confused, why is Grizzly not synonymous with precision? They're well regarded among wood workers. I mean, price isn't everything of course, but would people be dropping 2k on lovely tablesaws?

they're an okay garage brand for wood, as would be the Chicago Electric or whatever equivalent. Mostly because actually precise equipment, as is used in metalworking or serious production, is an order of magnitude more expensive. AFAIK the Sawstop is the basic standard of 'good table saw' these days, with a pricetag in the same ballpark, and if you handle one the quality gap between it and HF/Grizzly products is dramatic.

Grizzly stuff is fine for amateur metalworking and some kinds of professional work. You probably won't be holding better than a thousandth of an inch accuracy, but that's plenty for a wide range of jobs.

As long as the ways are straight and the machine is rigid, you can work around pretty much any other types of inaccuracy.

Why do some clothing items have depressing pictures of people hunched over sewing machines in a warehouse in the item description? Is there some cultural difference I don't understand, where this is supposed to inspire confidence in the seller??

Check the measurement guides for each item before you even think of buying anything. I wear an XL and bought a coat listed as 4xl that is juuust big enough.
