Maybe they can have a daily show on TF1 right after the JT, maybe it could replace Nos Chers Voisins for the better as a comedy show.

I lived in France for a couple of years a while back. My time there co-incided with the Chirac-JM Le Pen election. I remember thinking of the first round candidates only one seemed to be worth the steam off my piss and that was Olivier Besancenot (sp?) - 'Le Postie Rouge'. What ever happened to him? Is he still delivering letters around Sartrouville dispensing Marxist bon-mots to passers by?

e: ^^^^ what the gently caress ^^ It's pretty standard in how everyone from social democrats to full on liberals in the west talk about Africa, really, but the problem is that he doesn't really elaborate on what his policy on Africa will be. He outlines the problems that everyone can outline, says the usual stuff about having to work together, fighting corruption, difficult circumstances - it doesn't stand out as particularly racist, but that's because it doesn't stand out at all. It could've been said by any western leader during the past twenty years and it can be interpreted however you want. You can p much assume that it's going to be poo poo, however.

He actually said billions, milliards and milliers are two different words the translator didn't differentiate between apparently. He also doesn't actually blame women with 7-8 kids, that's pretty disingenuous, he just says that those kinds of demographic issues are one of the myriad of problems Africa has to deal with which is far greater than the challenges that had to be dealt with when it came to Marshall Aid. It'd be nice if the tweet showed the whole speech instead of just 28 spliced seconds. HookShot fucked around with this message at 20:47 on Jul 10, 2017 |

It's worth noting that what he says about women with 7/8 kids is inaccurate, the birth rate in most (but not all) African countries went below that in the 1990s (as you can see here). It's around 5 children per woman in most countries now. The region is just going through a typical demographic transition, it's not helpful to act like this is some kind of failure. Especially since states overreacting about a birth rate that's "too high" leads to poo poo like people getting forcibly sterilised.

According to the World Bank Niger had a fertility rate of 7.6 children per woman in 2015. He's using an extreme example to justify his case for not supplying billions of dollars in aid.
