Check the number in the bottom right on the helmet. Same as backpack and belt. It has a value for storage.

My favorite thing about this game is that it has reunited all my real life PC gaming friends and we hang out on mumble and play all the time now. There were a few games over the years that did this to some extent (BF4, BF1, Overwatch) but nothing like what I've seen with PUBG. It has been really awesome and I want to take full advantage of it while it lasts!

The Tommy gun is fine, you just flank/rush with it and spray down squads in one mag. Sure its bad in an open field but your equipment should factor into your positioning.

How about an M79 grenade launcher? With very limited ammo. Could be fun, and keeps it relatively close-ranged like the Tommy Gun (which I agree is the least useful of the unique weapons).
