The ex-students meeting with Secretary DeVos are Joseph Roberts, a retired Navy serviceman who previously lobbied members of Congress about what SAVE describes as the “military’s sexual assault witch hunt,” and Jonathon Andrews, a representative from SAVE who claims he was the victim of multiple false accusations that were meant to punish him after Andrews alleged that he was sexually assaulted by a member of his fraternity.

...

Yet on its website, SAVE says the organization believes that "intrusive questions about the accuser’s prior sexual history" should be permitted.

The SPLC describes SAVE’s overarching goal as "lobbying to roll back services for victims of domestic abuse and penalties for their tormentors, while working to return the focus to the 'true victims of abuse' — the falsely accused."

The Secretary of Education is meeting with people who literally think we investigate rape too much and should make the system more fair to the rapists.

The President of one of these groups, the National Coalition for Men, has literally gone on the record about Ray Rice smacking his fiancee unconscious.

In an interview with Pacific Standard, Crouch once said “if [Janay Rice] hadn't aggravated him, she wouldn't have been hit.”

While I see what you are saying, it would appear that any upheaval would be on the ISP's side, not the consumer. There wouldn't be infrastructure moving, just resetting everything back to how it is now by removing the throttling on their side.

Or maybe it's more complex than I understand, I am not a computer scientist.

There are quite a few things that would be allowed once Net Neutrality is gone that consumers might think are good. 90% of people have no idea what Net Neutrality is and just determine their favorability by the end-user experience.

One example:

If you don't have a business or premium account with Comcast, then you are currently under a monthly data cap (250 GB download). Comcast doesn't have to charge extra for access to other services (like Netflix) like some of the worst doomsday scenarios envision. Instead, what they would do is say "Streaming content from Xfinity.com and Hulu do not count towards your monthly cap. Unlimited free data for Xfinity and Hulu."

For consumers, this is "free" unlimited data for Xfinity services. Plus, Xfinity and Hulu work better than Netflix. If you decided to reimpose Net Neutrality in 5 years, then consumers would just see that Net Neutrality made them lose their "unlimited" data.

Not to mention that most of the powerful groups that are against repealing Net Neutrality now will likely be less resistant once they've already gone through the painful adjustments and less willing to fight to require themselves to adjust again.

This is already happening (for a different reason), and techdirt has covered it with some depth. Many of the heroes of prior rounds now have the weight to withstand ISP fuckery, and in many cases would benefit from increasing the barriers to entry for potential new competition.

They're not bailing from the fight, but Netflix (for instance) recognizes that it's no longer an existential threat and has reduced its involvement.
