The Hurricanes oldest defenseman is 25 years old, and all have been drafted by the team too except Dahlbeck. Considering that half the league is looking for puck moving defenseman and trading an Adam Larsson can get you a Taylor Hall, the Hurricanes seem like they're in a really good position right now.

If Darling has a really good year I could see them getting in. They're similar to what Columbus is.

Trevor Van Riemsdyk was traded for, not drafted. But their top 4 D (Faulk, Slavin, Pesce, Hanifin) have all been drafted, which is a rarity these days.

I remember back in the day when d-men were considered late in maturing but in the span of half a decade it feels like awesome forwards are awesome when 20-21 and defenders only a year or two later.

Also sophomore slump used to be a regular thing.

Yeah, I dunno what PPP was talking about there. Summer LTIR is very much a thing and has been since the first CBA. In terms of available cap space it's far better to figure out how to cram the injured guys onto your opening day roster and then throw them onto LTIR, but there's nothing stopping you from putting them on LTIR in the summer (except for the fact that you'd end up with a bit less additional cap space during the season).

In their defence Daly literally said "There's no LTI in the summer" less than two weeks ago when talking about Hossa, so there was definitely cause for confusion.

I hope Tocchet does well with the Coyotes, but he just doesn't strike me as a HC type of guy.

Recchi on the bench... ok, whatever. I really like them adding Gonchar to the staff. How does he go from part-time to full-time though? Was he just not there all the time last year?

Yeah. He didn't want to coach full time because his family lived in Dallas and wanted time with them. Probably kids in school or something like that and didn't want to uproot them.

I first noticed that Slavin was really good when him and Pesce played a shift over five minutes long against the Rangers and didn't give up a goal.

they got burned on the arena but i see that more as a asu business move and not a asu hockey move. they've had scrimmages with the asu team and i think we signed a guy or invited a guy to development camp or whatever.

my main point is that the coyotes have said they're willing to play ball in a shared arena and they're still playing second fiddle to an rear end in a top hat cheapskate in sarver and the suns, and they need someone who has been local and knows how to shake hands and get poo poo done, and the previous ownership group didn't really do that and depending on what you think, made it worse with the glendale situation.

He wasn't the AD for very long but he was present during the time that ASU started to change from perennially disappointing and underfunded to at least reasonable in basketball and football, so hopefully he can turn it around on the business side too.

Having an extra tenant can only help that arena deal at this point, to be honest. Even if ASU is only going to be drawing likely a few hundred people per game

ASU hockey has a few games at gila river arena and they host the tournaments there but mostly they play at oceanside ice which is a public rink that seats maybe 150

edit: and the proposed asu/coyotes arena deal would have a big hockey arena for the coyotes and a smaller one that would be better than asu's current location and also used for coyotes practices.

Playoffs are no big deal,
don't have a crap attack.
Reading about a potential 4-team swap in the NBA had me wondering if the NHL has ever had multi-team swaps. Apparently it's happened even more recently than I could have imagined, as the Coyotes/Preds/Habs all had a deal that mostly centered around Tinordi in January 2016.

The 'Canes would be a good team if somebody told their GM that you can't put question marks for your third and fourth lines on the roster card and let whoever shows up skate a dozen shifts per night.

The coyotes ended up getting gagner by way of tampa too. I think it's mostly because of the weird hard cap on salary in nba trades, so you have to ship off dead weight at the same time you're bringing a star in

Kings get: Justin Williams (CAR)
Canes get: Erik Cole (EDM), EDM 5th 2009 (EDM), CGY 2nd 2009 (LA)
Oilers get: Patrick O'Sullivan (LA), Ales Kotalik (BUF)
