yeah, I don't know how it happened but someone spilled coffee in the ceiling mounted projector and we're going to need a new one

baffling, really but nothing to be done about it now

at the very least if you didnt have a window in a toilet an extractor fan would be a second choice

we just have a can of air spray and an unspoken set of rules to let people know in advance if youre going to make the room inhabitable for thre next 15 minutes

I have two monitors at work, sort of

one is a fairly recent Dell 24", the other is a Dell optiplex AIO 7440. I use the hdmi input with my hp elitebook ultra slim dock thing. but I can also remote into th AIO for wfh

they are both vastly inferior to my viewsonic 28". vastly

how long will it take before hdr monitor prices fall to the point where theyre not much more expensive than their current non-hdr equivalents? are we talking a year or like four or five?

four or five i'd say. atm software developers still havent figured hidpi screens, and hardware manufacturers are still not making actual hdr computer monitors. everyone just tacks on some hdr derivation, like dell with u2518d - it has "dell hdr" that uses narrower colour gamut and like a third of brightness than what hdr10 standard reocmmends

hell, the standards havent been figured out yet, there's at least half a dozen of major competing versions

late, but that's basically what my college did

they had a deal in place with their supplier to get hardware cheaper with the condition that they had to purchase any consumables (bulbs in the case of the projectors) through them, and they had audit authority on the it expenses to make sure we were buying their hilariously overpriced stuff

new it director comes in, sees the contracts, says nope, gently caress that, and basically for the remainder of the contract whenever a thing had a consumable near it's mtbf they just removed it, replaced the whole loving unit (at a cheaper cost than changing the bulb in the projector's case) and binned the old hardware

supplier got wise half way through the remainder of the contract and threatened to sue, so about once a semester some poor computer janitor had to physically disable the hardware (originally by throwing it down a literal flight of stairs, though they eventually just started using hammers because lol @ cleaning up the mess in the stairwell) or arrange for student orgs (who depended on the college's it scraps) to steal poo poo

that department was... weird, but it made sense from a cash point of view apparently.
