The whole moral panic about abuse is really pissing me off because it completely obscures the actual power relations in play. Quite simply, if you through your speech enact decisions that effect thousands of people or speak from a platform that reaches thousands of people and a subset of those people rightly or wrongly call you a oval office, you have to shoulder at least some of that for getting into a conversation with thousands of people at once. It's really clear a lot of these people aren't actually talking about abuse, they're talking about their own invective (which they often make a living by spewing) finally being answered in kind, or even just critiqued. The problem is most of these cunts are pathologically disingenuous or wholely lacking in the slightest of self-awareness so they can't loving see that if they want to contribute to a discourse they have to let other people speak too.

Celebrities also choose to be public figures, but the papparatzo are still scum because they make it impossible for celebrities to have a private life separate from their job as a public figure. What's different with politicians is that they've chosen to be political as well as public figures, and their public conduct has political implications which are much more severe than whatever dumb poo poo the Kardashians are up to. Their private lives are politically relevant, and how they conduct themselves has broader class connotations which have an impact on their conduct as a political agent. Public servants should be vulnerable to public scrutiny.

The only people who ever use oval office in Australia are the sort who still very much conform to traditional ideals of masculinity. It's pretty absurd to claim that it isn't a gendered insult. It's almost used exclusively to describe negative traits, even when it's not intended as an insult. We used to use 'fag/human being' in a similar context, and has fallen out of usage for obvious reasons. I imagine its usage is pretty similar over in the UK.

This is hilariously wrong and I must assume you either aren't Australian, or in the off chance you are, only socialise with inner city types. Fag and human being are only ever used in a derogatory manner, oval office is neutral in Australian usage and requires context to determine if it was derogatory or not.
