He was right about California (sort of like how so many bigger stars would do appearances on The Tonight Show instead of Late Show, because Tonight Show was in LA), but, my God, he did not have to sign off on that juggernaut of a studio they have there, as well as the additional improvements that have happened. And Skipper was basically writing the "we're coming to you from LA" inserts in the shows, because he felt the need to show off that they were in downtown. It's ridiculously easy to fabricate remote appearances as being on-desk (I mean, the the Clayton commercial even made light of that), which means you can get pretty much any on-air talent as long as they're willing to toss up a $50 green screen in a room in their house and send them a $300 Canon handheld.

Thing to remember is barstool has kind of become a go to landing site for young guys. It's perceived as funny so a young 16 year old guy is going to eat their dumb poo poo up. Plus they post pics of "smoke shows" and they do post general pop culture poo poo too. They have podcasts with porn stars and all that stuff that appeals to a young horny male. Then you just stay with the site into college and so on. Believe me, I work with "adult" men who are beyond idiotic.

The Mariners bought a controlling stake in ROOT Sports Northwest, so we're sticking with that name while the rest of the nation rebrands to AT&T. I'm actually kinda nostalgic for the days of weird local broadcasts airing your local teams. Before ROOT and FSN, we up here in the Pacific Northwest had Prime Sports Northwest, which had exactly zero ambitions about anything but showing M's games. It was a comically low-budget production, but as a kid you can't help but feel a connection to the channel being "one of us, talking about our crappy team." Prime got bought out by Fox Sports and we had FSN Northwest for a while, which kept the same announcers but didn't feel the same. More corporate, more generic with the "Fox Sports baseball music" we already heard on every national broadcast. I kept watching, but it never felt the same for years on end. Then FSN Northwest eventually spun off into ROOT Sports Northwest, and as corny as the production got, it was the first time in years where I felt like the channel truly belonged to "us," just the idiot fans tuning into lovely M's baseball every night, hearing Dave Sims and Mike Blowers tell the same stories. It really felt like that local flavor again, the kind of bizarrely compelling TV you can only get from a shoestring local broadcast covering a crappy team every day. It actually kinda got me back into the M's even though they still sucked.

I had hoped that the combo of the M's and DirecTV owning Root would have meant that we could get it on DirecTV Now. I live in the "home area" for the M's for MLB.tv purposes (which is three freaking states btw) but my only option for getting Root is paying $120/month for some crazy satellite package that I can't get anyway because I live in an apartment. They're loveable losers, but they're not that loveable.

Yeah, I don't know why DirecTV Now doesn't have any of the AT&T Sports Networks, considering they both have the same parent company.

AA continues to be fantastic in their investigations on Jamie Horowitz. They got a video of his presentation of his vision for FS as a whole. You can see what he was trying to get at, and he's really not wrong about what audiences are being drawn to... and then...quote:But primarily we think that credibility tends to be from writers.
