Enjoy posted:but what is the correct definition? Of liberal? A philosophy based on the Enlightenment concepts of individual rights and principles of individual freedom and equality in law. It was a step up from monarchy but Marx's investigation and later the field of sociology have shown its many failings and flaws philosophically and in practise, hence socialism not making the same mistakes and centring itself around humanity as it exists, in groups and born into situations beyond any individual control based on the economic conditions and class structures. jarofpiss posted:dont even start you commie dorks Gentlemen you can't discuss socialist theory here, this is the LF thread!

Enjoy posted:is support for parliamentary democracy incompatible with viewing humanity as it exists? Parliamentary democracy is just a form of representative democracy so it is compatible but taking control of it doesn't automatically mean anything unless the economic structure is also taken control of and changed at the same time. Bernie is a social democrat because he argues for the reorganisation of select industries to maximise individual freedom from worrying about access to them or that wealth inequalities threaten the idea of equality before the law, not that the nature of capitalism itself is exploitative and must be all taken down.

U could argue that the Larry Parrish reforms to the electoral system to destroy political parties outside of caucasing within government and organising voters would in fact make america into a parliamentary system tho

namesake posted:Do you know the history of the Second International and the problems with reformist socialist governments post second world war? They're powerful evidence why reformist versus revolutionary socialism heavily favours the revolutionary. the usual complaint about the second international is that it abandoned internationalism once the great war started. this kind of abandoning of internationalism in response to national threats also happened under "actually existing" socialism, though. stalin had already begun moving towards russian nationalism before the second world war broke out (or the great patriotic war, in the parlance of russian nationalism). placing the international communist movement at the disposal of the russian state was the crux of "socialism in one country". in the 1930s, stalin's position was that national minorities within the soviet union needed to be assimilated (to stop their economic and cultural backwardsness being a drain or threat to the state). after the war, the socialist states engaged in exactly the kind of great power geopolitical manoeuvring as the capitalist states, such as the conflicts between yugoslavia and albania, russia and china, china and vietnam, and vietnam and cambodia.
