When I did my first one it was the FBI that contacted the people I listed. By the time I did my last, it was a private company with a contract. I think they were the ones that hosed up and got all the info stolen.

It's complete arbitrary based on your case worker. I've had friends who did a looooooot of poo poo and ended up with clearance. I had quite a few things as well, and got mine. Some people have minor infractions and get rejected.

Oh I got my clearance in about five months, I just didn't get precleared so I couldn't take the initial job I was up for and ended up at interviewing with a different contractor right when my clearance came through.

So this is probably old news to everyone else, but I looked up Trump's lawyer on Wiki.

He is repping Trump, but also has represented a Russian oligarch that owns a ton of stuff (Oleg Deripaska) as well as a Russian State Bank.

Oleg is really close with Putin.

Guess who used to work for Oleg. His name rhymes with "Raul Ranafort"

It really is Russians all the way down.

At this point I am developing a pet hypothesis that Russia saw Citizens United as a massive opportunity to funnel money into vulnerable US politicians- and wound up funding a fair portion of the GOP establishment as a result. Further, I suspect the Russians may learned from what the Koch bro's did in creating the Tea Party and are using that as a model to steer/manipulate the alt-right. I am also very suspicious that Russia might have been quietly funding certain American fringe media figures like Alex Jones and the like- certainly Russia has no problem in openly using state assets like RT to support people like Alex Jones.

I think at this point there is a case to be made that Russia may have embraced phase two of the cold war in a much more serious way than America was really prepared to deal with.

I was asked about a high school exchange trip to Russia that I'd been on when interviewing for a government-adjacent job once. Kinda weirded me out, because I hadn't mentioned anything about it on my application or resume, but I guess their background check was just really thorough. Looking back, I think they were just hoping I spoke the language, but who knows

This is basically what One Nation and Senate Leadership Fund have been doing. I dug up the FEC filings and they're in the first couple paragraphs of my megapost (page 30 of Russia thread).

It's why McConnell is turtling at the mere mention of investigating Russian links.

The best they can do is leave out sensitive information that he might not need to know that they are afraid he might leak to enemies. Fortunately, Trump is an easily-bored imbecile with the attention span of a kitten in a laser pointer factory, so its easy to keep important secrets away from him, but if Trump hypothetically ordered the CIA to explain everything they know about the world, they would have to do it.

At one of my interviews, I was asked whether anyone in my family was a dual citizen. "Like...a sister..maybe...?" rather leading me to say yes. Turns out, the office that had contracted the interview process made a mistake and listed an old ex-girlfriend (who was a dual French citizen before she dropped it for the Army) as my sister. That was the first time I learned that maybe the people in charge of security were human just like me and just as prone to mistakes. Mind blowing stuff, I know.

Thanks, I'm going to go check this out.

FYI, I have a hunch I have long wanted to run by someone like you. (That is to say someone who understands how to run down financial connections.) There is an organization called "School of Tomorrow" that I suspect an investigation into their financial history would lead rapidly into some fascinating places. School of Tomorrow publishes a conservative christian private/home school curriculum called "Accelerated Christian Education". This particular organization has deep ties to the Republican political establishment via the Council for National Policy, (the founder of School of Tomorrow sat on the board of the CNP for many years) and the GOP has acted repeatedly over the years to keep School of Tomorrow as far out of the public limelight as possible.

For a demonstration of the depth of the ties between School of Tomorrow and the GOP I reference the article "Remember the Christian Alamo". This article details how a School of Tomorrow facility that had been shut down for the concentration-camp levels of abuse it was heaping on teenage girls. (beatings, forced stress positions for hours, solitary confinement with constant auditory harassment for periods of up to 30 days, etc) Then Governor of Texas George W Bush swooped in and personally intervened to not only reopen the facility but to protect it from future state oversight with a RFRA law.

The thing about School of Tomorrow is that although the CNP is pretty competently run, SoT is staffed primarily by its own deluded cultists at this point. As a result of years of dealing with that organization I am 100% certain that they haven't the sense to cover their tracks competently. I rather suspect that an investigation into their financial history/financial history of their chief officers (the founder of A.C.E. was quietly forced out of the organization for raping one of his students, his wife runs it now) would yield a bountiful harvest of interesting connections and leads.

I have no capacity to take my investigation of School of Tomorrow any further than I have, but I am very certain that once someone starts seriously looking all kinds of fascinating poo poo will emerge. As an organization School of Tomorrow posses the delightful combination of outright evil and bumbling incompetence that has come to define Trump. So if you (or anyone else who has the capacity) ever gets the chance to kick the tires of that one, please let me know what you find.
