35% actually seems high. There's no way I would ever sell to a comic store. I've been looking at offloading some of my collection but it'll be with Kijiji or similar.

I like comics but I don't really collect them--mostly buy trades. How much is that New Mutants issue in question worth?

Hey Rhyno, how dumb of an idea was it for me to buy two of those blind grab bags on Amazon that have like 25 comics in them? They were less than $10 each and I'm betting it's mostly trash, but it should be fun to go through them to see what I get at least.

$10 for 25 comics is pretty good no matter what's in there.

In my experience, those grab bags are generally full of 90s and 2000s dreck, but occasionally there'll be something fun in them. Worst case, there might be something to laugh at.

I sell 20 comic blind bags for $10 in the store. People seem to like them a lot! We've been transitioning to 3 for $1 blind bags because I can put 500 of them together in a single shift and it's less likely that I will double something up.

I remember when my mother-in-law's boyfriend (before she was my MIL) met me and learned I liked comics and a couple days later he came over and had a handful of random 90s comics. It was all issues of GL Mosaic, Justice League Task Force, Secret Defenders, second tier Images (like Brigade) as well as 80s black and white explosion stuff like Aircel and non-Ultraverse Malibus like Ex-Mutants, Dinosaurs for Hire and Protectors. Of course he wanted me to tell them they were all worth 10K each, saying "cover price if you're lucky" basically destroyed him, he was so crestfallen.

Oh man, Malibu! I had a few of those as a kid, is there anything worth remembering about their superhero stuff? Some guy named Hardcase, maybe? And I remember an Ultron rip off robot whose head gets found in a junkyard and takes over the person who found it.

I think the most memorable thing about Malibu today is probably Ryu holding Ken's scalp going, "KEN! MY OLDEST FRIEND! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

To YouTube? What on earth--? I always hear about this sort of stuff circulating in the deepest, most relatively inaccessible parts of the internet, not the literally biggest and most visible video hosting site in human civilization. What would be the absolute best outcome a criminal would hope to get from uploading that material to YouTube, other than getting extremely and immediately arrested? I always liked Jones's writing, for the record, although I haven't gone back to it since this news broke. Has anyone here? Are there hints of this sort of stuff in what I, as a kid, found otherwise innocent and good?

I don't think Jones has ever done anything Rosemary's Baby-ish where the entire context is completely changed by his crimes.

Like Prime and the whole child fantasy part of it really sets of some alarm bells.

The idea is probably that there's a million hours uploaded every minute on YT, so nobody checks it all, especially private stuff, not realising AI algorithms are really good at finding and recognising and flagging stuff, and are not limited by such things like 8h workdays or one pair of eyes.

There is a ton of very creepy borderline stuff on youtube, with thousands and thousands of views, I'm not surprised some people actually upload illegal things.

drat. Creepshow was a huge childhood fave, and it's still totally great. edit: For zombie comics, I really liked DC's GI Zombie from a couple of years ago. It has art by the guy currently doing the American Gods comic, if anyone's digging on that. Also, Darwyn Cooke covers. Teenage Fansub fucked around with this message at 23:05 on Jul 16, 2017 |
