I'd have thought that there would be a 'Don't crash, rear end in a top hat' buzzer, or a warning light marked 'not the runway' or even the navigation system announcing 'recalculating route!' to let them know that they've screwed up. Maybe a 'Harrison Ford Incoming!' klaxon in the tower. Something more sophisticated other than a pilot on the ground happening to look in their direction at the right moment. Jet Jaguar posted:Same. IPCRESS posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31VMFZWjUdE&t=520s Their second radio was found to be faulty. They were flying into an airport with an uncontrolled frequency in the middle of the night, so not getting a reply was taken to mean no one was down there. And they didn't try the first radio because they were required to keep it tuned to Centre, which is the authority who gave them clearance to approach in the first place. Not hearing anything on the second radio frequency would normally indicate there was no objection to landing. The ground crew should have been looking out for planes as standard, and calling out warnings if they saw one. It's a frightening cock-up, but more to do with procedure than pilot error. So the pilots missed that as well as the differing colors/configurations of the runway and taxiway lights. And then the air controller didn't seem to mind when they mentioned lights on the "runway", because he assumed they were approaching the empty runway instead of the taxiway. It was really lucky that the united pilot looked out the window, in the right direction, at just the right time. Rah! fucked around with this message at 18:31 on Jul 15, 2017 |

No idea. In the UK it would be called off as a danger to the public/handed off to an aerial unit while ground units pursued at a less insane speed.

"You can't outrun a radio" is usually how it goes in the USA like, just... use technology? The OJ chase, probably the most famous car chase in history, was supported by calling out a bunch of stuff and literally getting people off the highway so he could safely do Whatever he wanted in relative isolation. It takes 30 seconds to call for a cordon of X area. I guess with the motorcycle it's a bit harder but still, like, what do you gain? Especially if it's a misdemeanor offense. I struggle to comprehend the benefit of putting so goddamn many people in danger (including yourself, as the cop!), except for the redemption of some sorta bizarro testosterone trophy.

If you back down first you become a baby back bitch the rest of your life. And you don't want to be a baby back bitch do you? I honestly assume this is because they don't have as many high speed chases in Finland (or wherever) that we do in the US so less times it's gone wrong with deaths so it hasn't been changed in police policy yet.

(Caution: video is a bit dry unless you're an electrical code enthusiast.) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cU6SV5I51GM Let's take normal 120V outlets and supply them them 240V. Also male-male suicide plugs. Also I've seen installations where people put relays in the gutter and that's sleazy and crappy because you'll tear apart equipment going "where the HELL IS THAT RELAY?" "They wouldn'tve put it in the gutter space would they?" And lo and behold they put the relay in the gutter or other interstitial space. Note: "Male-Male Suicide Plug" is going to be the name of the speedcore band I'm working on. 3600 beats per minute. Three-Phase fucked around with this message at 04:16 on Jul 16, 2017 |

They are also commonly associated with having screwed something up somewhere else and can be a red flag that the rest of the installation is, at the very least, a little suspect.
