I'll agree the red state blue state thing is crap.

But the reality of this county is complicated. Eg. the Midwest is linked to the PNW profoundly through its Scandinavians. California has similar connections to other areas due to migrations during the depression. One can get styles of beer that arise in upstate New York in the middle no where Ohio because of the Great Awakening. Old Charleston accents can be mistaken for new England.

Anyone who has spent time in a diversity of places in this county can see profound difference and profound connections.

Your gimmick is as bad and facile as any other simplification.

Trump is very genuine. Unbelievably genuine. I loving loved when he said "France is one of our oldest allies... not a lot of people know that."

To be fair, itd not like he colluded with the Russians to steal an election in exchange for the relaxation of sanctions while enriching himself and his family at the expense of the American taxpayer while simultaneously trying to worsen our healthcare nationally for no real reason.

So Nixon actually doesn't seem so bad, comparatively.

I feel like we hate France for the same reason we make fun of Canada, like bickering brothers. Of course some people take the stupid "hurr Surrender monkeys" thing seriously, but there are always morons in any selection of people.

They basically won us the Revolutionary War and we pay them back by poking fun that they didn't fight to the death in WWII while we were jerking off at home.

Fake news can't help but smear Orthogonians. I love how he got us off the gold standard, but it was only good by accident since he did it out anti-Semitic paranoia.

...is "fake news" the first irl emergence of newspeak? Its kind of hard to parse a specific meaning out of the ambiguously conflated potential meanings even in context, like its used solely to remove any kind of truth value from a statement.

It had a very specific meaning when it first entered into general circulation mid-late last year. Then the republicans/alt-right grabbed it and it's turned into its awful poo poo as is now.

Its irony that a phrase that was about the muddying of truth has itself become one of the biggest tools for that very purpose. :|

That's when I really started to realize that there was a massive difference between "News" and "Conservative News." I remember when Fox News spent a while attacking Sesame Street because the show had the audacity to say that sharing was a good thing. Sharing! Taught to our children! How dare they indoctrinate children with such liberal/socialist brainwashing.

This is Sesame Street, my top (maybe only) answer to the question "Is there anything truly good that America has given to the world?" If you're willing to poo poo on Big Bird and Grover because they say kids should learn to share... there's no depth you won't sink to.

There are no aliens.

Trump and his people have been in charge of the top levels of our government for half a year now. Donald can't keep himself from blabbing state secrets on Twitter and to random enemies of the state, just to make himself feel important. His kids hold secret meetings in the only building in town with Daddy's name on it in giant glowing letters. His lackeys check in on Facebook when they attend these secret meetings. When confused about how to lie, Don Jr. blasts out incriminating emails because he simply has no concept of how any of this secrecy poo poo works.

If there were aliens, you know Donald would have already demanded to see them himself. Then he would have taken a selfie with a preserved Grey alien, geo-tagged it at Area 51, and uploaded it to Twitter before anyone could stop him.

it was about that (you just weren't aware of it at the time). It referred to explicitly false pieces - completely invented stories, not partisan or biased reporting - that circulated on facebook and other social media sites. Then it got co-opted (by the right, obviously) to refer to stories they didn't like the slant on, then it grew to refer to stories people don't like the facts in.

Nixon was a bit odd like that. Some people close to him felt that Nixon's politics were surprisingly liberal... when he was sober. When he'd been drinking though, he passed right through conservative and landed at paranoid authoritarian. His drinking problem got worse and worse as his presidency went on, and we know how that ended.

Let him. He doesn't have the power to make anyone but his rabid 35% base believe it. Everyone else is just going to see the news headlines about 20M+ Americans losing health insurance and they are going to freak out like they did the last several times.
