In the grim future, there is only commerce.
Last game consisted of one turn of: Half an admech army gunning the gently caress out of Guilliman as his player wanted to see just how much he could take.

He went down after getting charged by some infiltrators.

Guilliman then stood up again with half his wounds, and proceeded to skull-gently caress Cawl who was left with half his screening Onagers dead.

Like, it wasn't even a chance in that situation.

I'm honestly not sure I'd want old marines anymore, just because they look so much worse compared to primaris. The intercessors anyway, the gravis stuff looks silly. Speaking of things that look bad, I finished a test intercessor.

I mean, what small marine kits are even missing at this point? We have full recent kits for every power armor mark, every specialist marine type, every unique chapter including Grey Knights and Deathwatch. Even if primaris marines weren't a thing they'd struggle to come up with new marine kits to sell.

Agreed. The range of traditional Space Marines doesn't need to expand to still be fully "supported" by GW.

The Tac Marine kit is pretty old isn't it? The current one was recut to get grav guns into the game, but it's basically the same as the 3rd ed one from 1998 or so.

Remember how good you are
Taco Defender
So I slammed a bunch of hams over the weekend at ANAmal.net's place with a bunch of other goons, including SexCannon, who is a cool dude but who I didn't end up playing against, and a bunch of other cool goons whose real names I know but whose usernames escape me now. We set up 4 tables at ANAmal's place, but ended up only using three of them.

I played 3 games that day:
- a 2,000-point 2v2 where my Black Legion teamed up with Imperial Guard to fight ANAmal's Dark Angels and some Raptors
- a 2,000-point 1v1 against those Raptors
- a 7 player-FFA game (15 power) using a modified version of the Carnage mission rules in the new rulebook.

SOME THOUGHTS AND OUTCOMES

Game 1 - IG and Chaos vs. Marines (ANAmal.net and JoshTheStampede) (2k)

- Hammer and Anvil deployment, Tactical Escalation mission. We made a bit of a mistake early on by leaving enough room for Terminators to deep strike behind us, but this was offset by ANAmal making terrible tactical decisions and chasing a bunch of plasma vets around iwth his Land Raider instead of going after objectives.

- Helbrutes having 8 Movement makes them much more useful than Dreadnoughts

- My Raptors failed both of their charges here, but eventually wiped out the Scouts

- Berserkers are really fuckin good

- This flyer died soon after this was taken

- We called the game Turn 3 when it looked like Chaos and IG were out to an unbeatable lead. Score one for the good(?) guys!

Game 2 - Chaos vs. JostTheStampede's Raptors (2K)

- Another Hammer and Anvil deployment. This time the mission was Cleanse and Capture. I got off to a strong start by using some advance moves with my Rhino and Heldrake to capture some objectives T1, and used my Raptors to wipe out more roof-scouts.

- My opp had just enough room to drop the Raptors FW special character, an Ancient, and 2 devastator squads right behind my rear forces. A powerful combo, since killing the devastators means they still have a chance to pop off some shots. They were probably misplaced though, too isolated and caught in a crossfire between my Havocs, cultists, a marine squad, and my deep-striking terminators, who made short work of them before his vanguard vets and assault marines could drop in.

- Power Scourges are real good now. Those +3A at S8 are money

- Prescience is real strong, and helped me wipe out said assault marines when they showed up.

- My Heldrake took out the Stormtalon this time, causing it to explode and kill 1 scout, 3 raptors (gently caress!), 2 chaos marines, and a primaris guy, the most damage it did all day

- My Berserkers swept through a bike librarian and his squad. They're real loving good, especially now that they fight twice on the charge immediately.

- They were not, however, good enough to take on a chaplain dreadnought, and got mulched by that thing pretty fast

- End result: Chaos win, 10-6

Game 3: 15 PR 7-player FFA

This game was a blast, and something I would *ABSOLUTELY* do again and recommend. 15 PR was pretty much the perfect amount to play this with, though I could see a case for higher values with 3-4 players (maybe 30-40 could work there). As it was, it was enough to bring 1 squad and a toy, give or take. Anyone who came in under 15 PR got +1 Command Point as a bonus. You'd also get +3 points for being battleforged, but most of those got spent on buying single-unit detachments, so most players had 1-2 points.

The "armies":
- Me: 1x Raptors (2x Meltaguns) + 1 Helbrute, 14 PR, 2 CP
- ANAmal: 1 Venerable Dread + 1 Terminator Chaplain, 15 PR, 1 CP
- Shadow Daishi: 1 squad of Wulfen, 14 PR, 3 CP
- Necrons: 2x Scarabs, 1x Wraiths, 14 PR, 2 CP
- Custodes: 1x Adeptus Janitores, 1x Imperial Psykers, 15 PR, 1CP
- Orks: Battlewagon, 1x Rokkit boyz, 15 PR, 1CP
- JoshTheStampede: 1x Predator, 1x Company Champion on Bike, 14 PR, 2CP

The Setup: We put a single objective mid-table, then drew names out of a hat to determine deployment. You could deploy anywhere more than 9" away from the center, and more than 12" from an enemy model. Each kill was worth 1 VP, plus at the end of each turn, controlling the objective was worth 1 VP. Game went 5 turns, and each turn we drew names from the hat to determine turn order.

Highlights:
- The Wulfen pulped the Company Champion on Bike immediately

- The Janitores swept through drat near everything, starting with the Terminator Chaplain, then some scarabs, then continuing on to...

- The Wulfen. This fight was pretty epic, but ultimately luck wasn't on Shadow Daishi's side and his Wulfen ate it, though they took out 2 Janitores in the process

- But they were also no match for the Venerable Dreadnought, who hosed their poo poo clean up

- The Orks get some good kills early on, but ultimately eat it trying to take down the Venerable dreadnought after the battlewagon gets blowed up by the predator

- Final result: Dark Angels (ANAmal) wins. I should have brought Berserkers.

Overall, very fun times. Big thanks to ANAmal.net for hosting, and thanks to the cool goons that showed up!

CUPOLA MY BALLS
Played tyranids again. We were going to pair off to play against other people who said they were going to come, but they didn't show up until like an hour after we decided to just play each other.

This was a 1500 point fight.

He had:
2 Broodlords
60 Genestealers
30 Hormagaunts
2 units of 10 termagants
2 crusher claw carnifexes

I had:
Captain with relic blade and storm bolter
Chaplain with storm bolter
Tac squad with combi flamer, plasma, heavy bolter
Tac squad with, plasmagun, plasma cannon
Guard squad with flamer and autocannon
Apothecary
5 cataphractii with a heavy flamer, a chainfist and some lightning claws
Kheres autocannon contemptor
Assault cannon + MM stormraven
Las+Plas razorback

So it went pretty well for me. I ended up losing on objectives 13-15. My shooting was able to thin them down decently, I killed about 20 genestealers before any of them made it to melee. Had scouts and a combat squad in the razorback acting as speed bumps, while the stormraven flew up the middle and shot stuff up. It dropped my terminators, chaplain, apothecary, and dread into the middle of the horde.

The dread got one of the carnifexes and the terminators probably got another 5 or 6 genestealers (He used his interrupt to kill the chaplain, which cost me a lot since I needed those rerolls), but the toughness of that group kept 2 units with about 35 genestealers between them locked up in that area for 3 fight phases, the other unit had been shot to pieces and only had 5 models left when it got to me. Was still enough to kill the speedbumps and a broodlord killed the razorback pretty easily, but it bought me a little more time to shoot with. Hormagaunts were largely ineffectual, they flanked around to engage my tac marines and stop them from shooting but the only thing for them to really shoot at that wasn't engaged was termagants. I think the hormagaunts killed 1 guy, I had emptied my hurricane bolters into them the turn before and killed 11. Maybe would've been better going into genestealers, but the only ones that were in rapid fire range had catalyst on them so I probably would've gotten 3 or 4 of them.

I was able to slowly whittle the horde down, by the time the last of my models were dead he had 6 genestealers, 5 termagants, and a broodlord left. I just had the stormraven left on the field, it was still at 10 wounds. It did a great attack run top of turn 5 right before my last tac squad died to position itself as the closest model to his warlord and kill it. He bunkered down with the remaining models in cover surrounding his broodlord and waited me out, since firing has to all be declared at once I was able to kill the stuff around his broodlord but couldn't target him after they died, giving him the win on objectives.

Next time I won't have the scout speedbump in place, since really it just meant he got some extra distance from charging turn 1. Keep forgetting they can run then charge.

From a fluff perspective if they wanted to keep normal marines relevant the Primaris should have come with a major trade-off like reduced lifespan. As it is there's no reason for a chapter to not eventually move fully to Primaris.

From the gameplay side they should really be aware that as long as the fluff is telling us that old Marines are going away we are not going to believe the marketing that tells us they're still relevant. After all, they have already told us otherwise.

Its lies anyways to make it go down easier. I'll believe smallmarines are still alive when they start putting out new smallmarine kits.

Ain't happenin'.

Get with the program guys, GW wants your cash and found the best way. Rather than introduce new armies that some players will ignore, get all the SM players to buy replacements instead.

I'm not too salty about it because they do look cooler and I don't play SMs, but if I had a big SM army right now I'd probably be pissed.

Gyro Zeppeli posted:
