I think the whole country was in a drunken, hazy, state after 9/11, so it was primed to get taken advantage of. I think that a lot of people have repressed memories of it because they did in fact see something truly horrifying being broadcasted on television that day. A lot of people lashed out in different ways, but bottom line is that's kinda what happened. I think it didn't really hit people hard until 2005 or so how hosed things were. The anger towards Dubya predates 9/11 though. 2000 election was not a good time for our country.

Marvel is in a weird place right now, they are still rich as gently caress because Disney and the movies but their comics part has been circling the drain for a while. A lot of it has to do with how they sell them and how the keep pushing dumb plots and making GBS threads out terrible heroes that are just there to capitalize on woke poo poo. Some of the work really well a lot don't.
