Super Punch Out doesn't sound appealing to me at all so I guess that would get my vote as the one I wouldn't miss. All of those are solidly fun games. Super Punch Out sounds dumb if you've never played it before, but is legit fun.

Captain Invictus posted:DKC happens to have one of the best soundtracks in all of gaming. DKC 2 has another one. They are seriously amazing soundtracks that were kinda nuts to have on an snes game. A lot of SNES games have fantastic soundtracks. Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Yoshi's Island, Star Fox, etc, etc, etc. The S-SMP was amazing.

No, I meant the music itself. Impressive in that it was coming out of an SNES sound chip. like straight out the gate you're hit with this jam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cscrBLh8mE8 and then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEE-RzKMelU AND THEN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAPpVplHiDE AND THEN! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v18pEFQb3EM A N D T H E N https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS7_tcwsj4E what I'm saying is SNES had a lot of great music but DKC music sounded a lot more "real" than most of the other stuff that came out of the system at the time

listen to those + ice cave chant from the first game and to forest interlude, stickerbush symphony, life in the mines, snakey chantey and bayou boogie from dkc2. both games are at or very near the top of game soundtracks, not just of their era but of all time. also northern hemispheres from dkc1, while not being an astounding track by itself, works so loving good in the context of the first level you hear it in, it's just monumentally impressive.

I picked up an SD2SNES for cheaper than this will be selling for and loaded it with everything and more than this will have. Still going to buy it because it's the only legitimate way to play Star Fox 2 which doesn't play in the SD2SNES and I want to see how it stacks up to the repro cart. It's me. I'm the fanboy idiot.

The real reason I want an NES classic and SNES classic more than the actual real systems or a retropi, honestly, is the interface. The interface with its quaint and simplistic horizontal list of games and four save state spots per is really charming. Actually, has anybody come out with a retropi interface that mimics this one?

You can even add in the NES Classic background music (I prefer the NES Remix Title Theme through) through a separate script. Has Nintendo shown what the interface from the SNES classic is? Is it just a re-skinned version of the NES Classic?

Press have only been allowed to take a look at the physical hardware so far, not plugged in. No previews of the UI yet. I assume it'll be very similar, maybe tweaked to suit horizontal boxart.

mutata posted:I played and beat Yoshi's Island forever ago via emulator, what has happened that makes it so unemulateable? It uses a SuperFX2 chip and is the only worthwhile released game to do so. For fairly accurate emulation, that chip's requirements are higher, so on some older or lower-powered devices like the original Wii or Raspberry Pi Zero, it's not possible to emulate the game properly without dropping frames; on a PC, though, it's fine. Apparently one of the reasons for the FX2 chip usage was to compress the graphics, because ROM chips were crazy expensive and it was cheaper to put a co-processor in instead. univbee fucked around with this message at 18:56 on Jul 17, 2017 |
