That looks great, I like the damage counter in particular; think there will be difficulty with something like a battleship in high orbit? I've managed fine with the regular bases but I'm hoping version 2.0 or a better third party one like yours comes out eventually.

Here's the video interview!

Highlights:
-All transports activate like Shaltari gates now. You pick which ones you want to activate with your current group and they can grab whatever fits.

-The bow guy didn't seem to get the above despite Dave explaining it three times.

-You purchase FM attack runs instead of FMs themselves. They can come in either slow or fast. Fast is like the current mechanics. Slow they stay on the board for a round, can make a course change and get two chances to attack but are easier to shoot down.

-If a FM gets shot down it's a lot of killpoints but you still get your remaining attacks runs since again, you're not buying specific planes.

-Listbuilding will be somewhat simplified.

-The new Command deck has 56 cards but you pick 40 to actually play. This allows for more specialised cards since you can just sort them out if your army doesn't have the relevant units.

Absolutely, i'll post it here when i'm done. It's not gonna contain any secrets and we all profit from a larger playerbase. Also if you regularly give demos absolutely register as a talon, if only for beta rules and store credit. For me the hobby has become mostly self financing as far as the actual models go.

I'm liking the sound of Fast Mover changes. The (gorgeous) models not being present on the board for 98% of the game never felt right. They were effectively tokens and you often didn't even need to place them to perform an attack run if your opponent wasn't trying to shoot at them. I'm not sure about the killpoints bit. On first impressions it sounds like a big risk to gamble a 300 kill point loss on what may be a single attack roll. I guess the balance is that buying a single attack run for your force should cost a lot less than buying a fast mover outright does now, so it would have less exposure over a game.

Assuming that intercepts are still in, does making an intercept count as one of your paid for attack runs? I guess it would if you can net big returns on kill points.

Not invalidating existing models is cool. More importantly though, a comprehensive rebalancing may finally make the few trap choices like Menchit A1's relevant for the first time ever! If anything its those units that we may end up judging the new edition by. The Menchit is made redundant by core mechanics as much as its stat line with cover saves etc making the machine guns weak even when it can bring weapons to bear.

Decoupling Dropships from squads should be a big win and open up options. In theory a dropship can pick up AA from back board one turn, move them forward to drop next turn, then immediately pick up AT units from nearby in the same turn ready to drop them further up field in a third turn. Rolling advance! I wonder if they will figure out a way to make APC's relevant while they are at it?

Simplified listbuilding sounds like a move towards Dropfleet's single force org chart for all factions. Not sure I like this idea yet, but I see why they would want to make it a less baffling part of the game.

Similarly, customising the command decks feels like a nod towards a common complaint by newer players. Some people don't like the randomness of the command decks, being able to remove cards is making things less random and I guess more potent as you will be drawing fewer irrelevant cards that you will need to cycle through. Espionage cards are probably going to be even more valuable than they are already!

Bistromatic

For the force orgs in the current incarnation i'd have liked to see more difference in structure. For the new system we'll have to wait and see.

With the command decks i feel it's mostly to enable more varied listbuilding and cards. It's no fun to have cards on hand for unit types that are not present and this neatly sidesteps that.

They want to get it over to the States for gencon as it is now old news on the show circuit here in the UK. I'm very confident that they are hoping to find a US partner to help get it over there to reduce the costs and maybe simplify shipping.

Sadly I didn't get to see it. :(

I doubt that they are selling it to ease cash flow. After shipping costs are taken into account how much is anyone realistically going to pay for it? Prospective buyers are hobby shops (which can't usually afford to spend thousand's on huge display models), a handful of rich nerds in huge homes or possibly a convention organiser but I doubt it.

Those arts did indeed turn out to be for new box sets, called Battle Fleets - 1 battlecruiser, 6 cruisers, 8 frigates, 3 corvettes, faction command deck, and activation deck, for £99

They're not on the site yet, but that's a great price, given that it's 2 starter boxes and a battlecruiser, and those would be £105 without the decks and corvettes.

Considering a couple of options for a 999pt tournament:

--------------------------------------
Pool tournament - 978pts
PHR - 6 launch assets

SR20 Vanguard battlegroup (375pts)
1 x Leonidas - 195pts - H
1 x Bellerophon - 180pts - H
+ Vice Director (40pts, 3AV)

SR8 Line battlegroup (256pts)
1 x Ganymede - 135pts - M
1 x Calypso - 37pts - L
2 x Andromeda - 84pts - L

SR7 Line battlegroup (210pts)
2 x Europa - 80pts - L
1 x Orpheus - 130pts - M

SR3 Pathfinder battlegroup (117pts)
2 x Medea - 78pts - L
1 x Medea - 39pts - L
------------- dflist.com -------------

Or, drop the Orpheus (gun transport) to an Orion (double medium battery cruiser) and have 4 Medea. I need to build either the Orpheus or Orion, seems I have been neglecting my medium cruiser roster a bit.

Yeah, "I have a 2+ to hit and 50% chance of critting." is a pain in the arse. especially with their huge range! My Seattle is basically there to spam fighters unless I get lucky and take down all the enemies carriers. (Tough luck with the PHR friggy carriers.)

The Jakarta's should help keep the San Fran alive long enough to drop troops, I'm wondering if the Seattle can protect the Berlin and swapping the Toulon's to give the Avalon a little friend of its own. Active scanning with them is a idea, but against a fighter-heavy force it would be lighting them up to be picked off. I can't wait to get my Scourge painted up so I can have slightly better fighters (scald, if not in speed or hitting power)

The thought of an Avalon with 13 point defense is nice though!
