So what are everyone's thoughts on Praxis vs. Momentum?

I don't know too much about either but I did read both of their statements. Praxis seems very vague/unspecific. I like that Momentum is much more concrete since it allows me to actually form an opinion on them.

I'll withhold judgment until Praxis releases their platform, but Momentum's is looking pretty good and fairly comprehensive from what I've seen.

Momentum, from what I've seen, has a platform of things that the people who wanted to get elected think people want to hear. Praxis was basically formed as a response to that, by people who seem to be less concerned with doctrinaire stuff and more with just doing actual on the ground organizing.

I'll grant that the Momentum folks I don't know of personally might not have the same sense of entitlement to leadership that the ones I know have, but I'd vote Praxis just based on who I know are good organizers.

The people were ASTONISHED at his doctrine.

I can't really get over the irony of a group calling itself Praxis not actually laying down a course of action and it's probably going to permanently color my perception of them.

That said, I just hope they have something up prior to my local's "How should our delegates vote?" meeting or we're definitely going to swing all-in on Momentum, I suspect.

praxis absolutely need to communicate what it wants but i'm close to some of the major praxis guys and they do actually have a game plan, they just (frustratingly) did not wait until they had it all nailed down to announce their slate.

Thanks.

What's the overlap between these two groups and the people who wanted the monthly dues thing?

I already complained about this to some people in my chapter but the dues proposal seems premature. I am extremely down with some of the medium- and long-term goals those people set down, like the idea of having more constant inter-chapter coordination, DSA hiring members as organizers, more-established chapters sending money/old hands to new chapters, etc but the debate over it is happening basically only online which leaves a lot of members out and the convention is only a couple weeks away so any big commital resolution isn't going to have had time to take in real input. Like for example in my chapter we already voted on the convention delegates before these NPC slates and big proposals came out so I dunno how to ensure they represent our members' opinion. I don't even think our members have had time to form an opinion on these things even now.

Also the idea that the budgets would apparently not be voted on is not workable imo

If I were the king of DSA I would say that the current convention should be more of a caretaker one and not commit to big structural changes until the org actually has a demos that can give policy decisions a mandate.

packing tape. A group of neighborhood boys, each no older than 12, gathered around. They wanted signs to tape to their bicycles, so they could ride around and “tell Trump” what they thought of him.

One grabbed a piece of cardboard and wrote in big letters: “TRUMP’S A BITCH.”

Max Neely quickly stepped in.

“I’m not sure you should use that word,” he said, his voice taking on a fatherly tone. At 6ft2in, he towered over them. “That word isn’t very respectful to women, and there are a lot of women around here today that we should be respecting. Maybe you can think of another word to use.”

The boys conferred. Eventually, they settled on a different, less offensive protest sign – at least in Neely’s eyes. “gently caress TRUMP,” it read, followed by four exclamation points.
