This is, I believe, the wrong approach. Instead of asking which is the best stat, ask what do you want to know. The stats you mention are attempts to measure total contributions by a player, which may be a flawed premise due to the situational aspects in which a player can contribute (eg Trevor Ariza and Danny Green became much more valuable offensive players when they stopped handling the ball and became shooting specialists, despite contributing less). As far as these overall contribution stats go, regressed plus minus (there are different flavors, I guess espn's Real Plus Minus is the most accessible) is probably the "best" in that it actually measures directly the contributions of these players' effects on the scoreboard, even though there is a lot of uncertainty in the metric due to technical statistical reasons. An attempt to reduce this uncertainty, best seen in small sample sizes (say, contributions over some number of games rather than over multiple seasons) is a linear plus minus regressed on box score stats, of which basketball-reference's Box Plus/Minus is probably the most accessible version. There are others, some of which you mention, but they all tend to tell the same story: the players you think are the best usually rank very highly in all of these, and if they don't, there's probably something wrong with the stat.

But for most people, these stats aren't very interesting, since we already know who the best players are, and don't really need a stat to tell us. The better questions focus on more specific topics: who is the best rebounder? who is the best pick and roll creator? who is the best one -on-one defender? who is the best shooter? There are stats that answer some of these questions very well, and they do it more directly so you can have a more confidence in the numbers. Feel free to ask for any topic, is there a stat for this? There usually is.

Or "most likely to end up in th e hall of fame" which is FGA.

The Lakers won the summer league because they basically put together a D-League all star team alongside like 3 of their NBA roster players and even then they didn't actually start winning until the draftees other than Kuzman started playing less. This is not a great sign since the guys not playing are the ones who are on the team for the most part, but it's also not necessarily a bad sign either since it's not unusual for one and dones to put together bad performances here.

Lonzo was mostly bad and the league MVP is decided by the very tiny number of reporters who did not fly home. DSJ, Fultz, Tatum, Forbes, all played legitimately well and much more consistently and demonstrated a realistic way to contribute to their NBA teams. The Lakers are not going to be able to say "you know what, let's just not run the pick and roll tonight and feed Lonzo and also hope a random 19 year old just decides to let him slowly dribble to the basket over and over again," at least not unless they plan to win single digit games this year.

This was going to be a development season no matter what for the team, but they now have one less thing to develop and need Lonzo to be a fast success desperately now, instead of being patient with him. This is not a fun spot to be in.

Well, congrats on keeping a clear head.

Apparently Woj said on Sportscenter that Melo does not want to play for the Knicks anymore and wants to go to Houston. How does the team being up for sale affect a Melo deal?

Probably doesn't affect it. I think they were mostly trying to move unguaranteed deals + Ryan Anderson, and I don't think the value of the franchise is going to be affected by any of that. Melo will bring in some name-revenue but probably accelerate their tax clock. Either way, not enough to move the needle.

Seems like someone else would be interested in Melo.

I could see him waiving his no trade clause for Miami, Charlotte, Washington, Dallas or Detroit, but I don't think any of those teams can make a deal work.
