I think it's too early unless you really want the full three years of the deal (meaningless in this draft) or think he's going to be something special right away.

I had fully intended to take Vasilevski here, and thought he was going to make it to me. Now that my pick has escaped me for the second time in a row, I'll have to resort to my back-up option. So let's just take another Oiler in Cam Talbot. Which is not a bad pick by any stretch of the imagination, he was crucial to the Oilers success last season and would have his numbers improve behind the defense I've picked, but loving god damnit Vasilevski is going to break out this year and I really wanted to be the one to have him.

I was gonna take Vasilevskiy if Think Tank didn't, so don't feel bad because you wouldn't have gotten him anyway.

The entire draft is meaningless. It's not necessarily about building the team that scores the most next season. Beyond just gimmick teams (like what I assumed ThinkTank was doing until his last pick) there are also just different philosophies around how you build your team. I'd be surprised if Hischier made it back around, so if you want that #1 pick you've kinda got to take him now.

How was mine going to be a gimmick team? I took Drai and Hall who were Oilers, but then Suter.

I'm not creative or dedicated enough to come up with and follow through on any sort of gimmick.

Looks like I can pick in about a minute? I'll edit this post.

Anyway editing this to homer it up and take Cory Schneider.

My team is more or less win now (although it's not really that old) and Schneider should rebound and do well with a real team in front of him. I was probably going to go Gibson if he was available but this is fine.

Seguin
Forsberg
Letang
Schneider

thus far

I think I'm going to go with Jake Gardiner to pair with Justin Faulk. His fancy stats seem really good considering the terrible Leafs teams he's played on, and he's coming off a breakout year that isn't bolstered by anything that looks particularly unsustainable.

Here's my team so far:

Eichel

Faulk-Gardiner

Holtby

The Chicago Blackhawks need a center that can shore up the top-6 and play a stingy defensive game. Come on down, Jordan Staal.

Chicago is also seeking a veteran at RHD. Come on down, Matt Niskanen.

I'm tempted to take another forward but instead I'm going to select D Damon Severson in the hopes that he can score decently if he's not on the Devils.
