Hooked up some basic logic and updated my player sprite accordingly; going to have to devote serious time over this coming weekend to hammer out the basic gameplay instead of loving around with weird oddities if I want to have a finished product by jam end though. So far fairly impressed by the Defold game engine, for a basic 2D game engine it works fairly efficiently.

Some impressive looking stuff so far. Time to poo poo things up a bit! I've only spent one day effectively working so far, but I should have more time the coming week to earn my place on the wall of shame. I've got the basic movement done, some lovely tiles and... uh this title screen: (It's supposed to be Batman confused with Spider-Man by way of Superman for the NES - the Simpsons vibe is entirely unintentional )

I'm sitting at about 50/50 feeling like "yes! I did it! I'm gonna be able to finish the rest of this code no problem!" and "wait, i created a string input field but I have no idea how to make it actually clickable/typable, i'm going to die a failure on the wall of shame"

Got my game balance figured out, I have a short script so my characters have things to talk about in cutscenes, and I have a couple music tracks. I switched from Unity to Rpgmaker XV Ace because I got tired of trying to make menus layer correctly instead of working on art, and holy poo poo the whole thing runs on a database but has no way to search it and make a list. I may be hosed. Nail my rear end to the wall of shame, I guess.

Lots of stuff done today. This was my last day popping stuff in before actually building proper menus and game thingys So first off I got gibs in! Before critical hits were insta kills but now they cause gibbing. Also somehow dropping below -4 hp will cause them to gib Then I moved on to a new enem- A new ene- Ahem A new enemy based off the shotgun guy. He's a little more aggressive and harder to kill. You might notice I finally got rid of them having perfect aim too, just to make things a little less robotic. And I also changed how mouse aiming works because I kept snagging the cross hair on corners and missing shots and stuff. So this weekend is just Menus on menus and other essential game stuff like the player dying and...uh pausing...

I've legit spent the better part of my activity for the last two days trying to nail down pausing. It was all well and good until I decided I wanted my options menu to be fetchable in-game. Then things got dicey. Let us not generalize this code.

Spent my day off filling my game with creative Commons music and SFX. https://opengameart.org/content/lasso-lady-seamless-loop Looking through cc sounds effects libraries for laughter and swooshes is a horrifying experience. Those guys are out of their minds and I thank them for it.

Added a basic level / tile editor. Turns out making 3d tiles is a massive pain in the rear end - had to abandon cubes per wall segment and rebuild the walls using a voxel system to prevent seams / z-fighting between tiles. Also money! A poo poo interface! Waitresses! Bar staff! Status indicators! Still not really a game!

It's looking more and more like my partner and I are destined for the Wall of Shame, but we've already decided to keep working on it together after the jam so at least it won't be that hopeless of a situation for us. Our scope seemed to be too large for the amount of hours I have been able to invest into the programming, pretty much.
