Well Now that the cars are now in* the space game, I guess that means CiG is saved. Everyone go home. *please note the use of 'in' here is purely theoretical. As is the game.

It's not that they're using a mat painting - as you said that's pretty common - it's that they've been touting their planet-generating abilities for loving months and they can't even be bothered to use a screenshot from in the game to market their reskinned Warthog. People on Reddit are legit going "wow is the water really going to look like that" because CIG's marketing is A) too loving stupid to realize how pumped people would be if they used this as an opportunity to show off their terrain and B) too loving evil to bother not lying to their customers.

Crazy_BlackParrot posted:well when you put it like that;;; Like they did anything more than make a literal jpeg. It would have to be something with an actual model to be dropped in the procedural environment. Also - remember per the cast iron TOS - buying these doesn't guarantee that you will actually get them, and if you do get something it may look completely different from the concept picture. <<insert rusty radio flyer photo here>>

The background is hardly changed, they just added some dumb towers and spaceships flying by in a blur, but if you can find a high res version, look at the cyclone itself. It looks like a test shot on a progressive render that they stopped too early. The reflections are grainy and the shadows aren't properly resolved at all. This would undoubtedly look better actually rendered Cryengine.

Hello everyone, been lurking some but been too busy with boring rl stuff to post... anyhoo here's some art history for you: This is titled "The Emperor Triumphant" painted between 2012-2014 by renowned French artist Rien d'Archère, it shows the Emperor Crobler at the peak of his powers. He smiles at the viewer, pointing to the stars with an outflung arm. "Come with me and live the dream!" he seems to say. Sat upon his mighty steed Star Citizen, the world is his oyster. Compare the above to this painting by controversial Russian artist Derki Smartov. Painted during 2015-2017, this is simply titled "Deathmarch". After his comprehensive defeat on the freezing Steppe of Reality we see the beaten Emperor retreating with his defeated army of minions. Every stroke of the artists brush cries: Oh the Humanity! Where did it all go wrong?

Sure, but that's kind of my point: why do it the hard way with dubious results, when any 3D package from Lightwave on the Amiga and onwards would let you blend the two effortlessly in-camera? …assuming you had a 3D model, that is.

I use corona render for my work ( I do renders for archviz ) and corona is progressive. Meaning, it works with passes, 10 passes you can see all these dots'(noise) in corners, 100 passes give a nice clean image. it looks like the render wasn't even done.
