Xander77 posted:In unrelated news - I've got rear end Creed Syndicate on Uplay. If I buy the Season Pass on steam, can I apply it to my Uplay account? Well without AC Syndicate on Steam you won't even be able to buy the Season Pass on Steam so it's moot anyway, but I believe the answer is no regardless. Even though UPlay games bought on Steam will authenticate with UPlay and create an entry in your game list (and in the case of owning the game in both places create two indistinguishable entries) any DLC is only applied to the Steam purchased version of that game. Also, shout out to the Blitzkrieg 3 devs for giving us a free weekend and a deep discount. By that I mean that letting me access your randomly hanging game (barely made it 15 minutes before my first crash) that always has to be connected to the internet and even stores SP tutorial progress server side so you can quite often have to repeat the tutorial multiple times before you can pass it. Never mind that even with a free weekend and a simultaneous player count of a trickle over 1000, your servers still couldn't hold up and there was significant downtime. And of course like an idiot I was super keen about a WW2 RTS Clash of Clans on PC that I went and bought it straight up without even using the free weekend as a demo, so now I'm giving it one more go before I hit two hours before probably inevitably refunding it anyway. I was so excited for this game too

Because the Myth II (incredible game if you get past the hard drive deleting part) debacle pretty much ruined them?

They had been working on Halo for about six decades at the point when they got into bed with Microsoft, and had already transitioned to developing PC games instead of Mac only. I would expect the development costs of Halo drove that deal versus any fallout from Myth. Oni probably did them no favors either, even though I will always love it.

There's a surprising number of games that have crossed over between the various platforms, considering the publishers involved. Like you can get Ubisoft stuff on Origin, and Square-Enix stuff on Uplay.

Crabtree posted:Yeah but I'd rather not go through several accounts just to play one game. Ya and now Battle.net is basically Activison's version of uplay/origin. I rather have all games in one place but if these companies can make more money by avoiding Valve taking a cut they will do it. Don't think Activision will be be affected by this since Blizzard games have always had their platform so lots of people already have battle.net accounts if they want to play Cod or Destiny. In EA's case I think it did hurt them in terms of sales for games like Mirror's Edge 2 or Unravel. Those games are kinda niche and Steam user base is way higher so it would help its sales.

Rookersh posted:For people with multiple drives. This has already been covered a bit but I have some things to add. I assume you've set up libraries on those other drives, and not just symlinks. When you reinstall steam, you just add a new library and point to those directories. You can also move games to another drive from within steam. Go to the properties of a game, go to local files and then click move install folder. That will copy the games to another library. Then you can wipe your drive, install steam, set up the libraries on the other drive and then all your games are installed.

Peaceful Anarchy posted:Are you really minimizing the money you give EA if you keep a running subscription? By the time a game hits Origin Access I imagine it's been on sale for 5 or 10 bucks, and even at 10 bucks that would be 6 games over the span of a year. Does EA add 6 worthwhile games to Origin Access every year? £20 a year is what I pay, and that's allowed me to play 20 games that I've had a passing interest in but not enough to give money for. That works out at £1 a game. Even if you just want anything in the Bioware back catalog, it's still a good deal for say the Mass Effect or Dragon Age trilogies plus access to great short single player campaigns like Titanfall 2 soon. Grab the $5 if you just want to play one game that's already there, grab the (I'm guessing it's $30 for a year) if you want to play many games on that list.
