Strange that would fix it unless it was causing weak spark or low fuel pressure (low pump voltage)...Give it more time.

DevCore posted:Is there a particular vintage of WRX's that are objectively better than others? If you're not looking for a hatch and are willing to spend $20k+ you're probably better off getting a new one unless you really don't like the styling. A new base model WRX starts at about $26k. The one you linked is also a base model. $20k for a 2013 that's definitely been modded would leave me a little leery.

I hate how few options there are around Subaru. I'm going to drive my 200k mile 2004 wrx till it blows, but at this point I'll probably just end up putting a new motor in it when it blows. People want too much for used Subaru and I'm not about that new car life. I'm also a dummy who keeps tuning more and am probably swapping to e85 at the end of the year.

Count yourself as lucky you live in a place where you can keep driving a 2004 vehicle without it turning to red dust around you.

Listed my 09 WRX hatch tonight. I am using TrueCar as a guide for price, but there are about 8 nationwide at my milage and trim so the sample size is small. At least I have the only red one for sale.

Someone's tie-down strap fell off the back of their truck. I dodged, it bounced and dodged with me. Between the trashed rim, the bubble on my tire, and the damaged arm, the hatch will be in the shop until Tuesday.

Subaru spergs, can any of you point me to a source for a cam position sensor connector/repair kit for an '03 Forester X?

Looks like I may need to get a tire shaved, even if it's just 1/32 of an inch. Anyone got a reference for the SF Bay area?

So apparently wrx suspension fits the Forester with no modifications. Picked up a cheap set of 2013 takeoffs from nasioc and this is the result. Ended up about 3 inches lower and it feels much nicer.

um excuse me posted:Are you talking control arms and everything or just the coilovers? Stock takeoffs, just shocks and springs/tophats etc. If I were to do any adjustable setup I'd need the control arms and whatnot, at least that's what the Forester dudes told me. It's an na, plugs took me all of 30 minutes haha. I will look into it though, I heard some people end up using the upper control arms as well.

I don't know of a difference in the upper arms. They are different between 00-09 legacy and outback, because the arm contacts a bump stop on the chassis. 08+ Impreza/Forester (and 10+ leg/ob, rear of brz) I am pretty sure all suspension links are same. But anyway, imagine you lowered a WRX 3 inches- it would be hosed.

Our Forester's shocks are just about shot, so this (and all the other talk) is awesome. I was thinking about picking up something that would drop just a bit, so not sure about 3 inches, but I'll be keeping an eye out for wrx takeoffs for cheap now...

Are tight valve clearances a Subaru Thing? Everything is in-range after 135k on a EZ30D but a few valves are getting close to the minimum. I'm going to measure shims tonight to see if I can trade a couple to get the valve lash even all-around, approximately half way between spec and the minimum clearance. Any flaws in my plan?

I have a 2010 Impreza Outback Sport, and the clutch is acting up. When the clutch is in the process of engaging or disengaging, it sounds like metal on metal / squealing / generally bad. Almost sounds like something is loose in there. This is most noticeable when starting in first or reverse. Then once the car warms up it pretty much goes away. It does not slip once engaged under load. Car has 100k miles on it and has been commuted in stop and go rush hour traffic for 7 years. Is it just time for a new clutch? Something simpler? Something more sinister?

treizebee posted:Throw-out bearing? As in, clutch fully engaged and see it's it's noisy in reverse? I will try and report back. It definitely makes the noise going engaging/disengaging from reverse. Whatever the root cause is, it almost seems like if I'm going to tear it apart or pay to have it fixed, at 100k miles it probably needs to just be a whole new clutch and ancillary components, right? How much of a pain in the neck is a clutch on a Subaru? I'm decent at stuff but never have done a clutch. Or a throw out bearing if I can access it separately.

blk posted:I'm looking at putting hitches on my Saabaru and my wife's 09 Outback for a bike rack. Any tips or things to look out for? The Stupid donut gasket that connects the midpipe to the exhaust manifold might break and need replacing. If it does, be prepared to grind out the residue from the old gasket and make sure you buy an OEM one.

so it looks like my '05 Saabaru aero is giving up the ghost at only ~135k on the odometer It's been having issues with oil leaks for a while which I thought had been remedied with a costly valve gasket replacement just earlier this year but apparently something happened between the last oil change and the past couple of weeks. The oil light began flickering last week so I scheduled an oil change as soon as I could get it in this Monday. I added a quart of oil and drove it and it immediately began smoking something fierce so I added another quart (dipstick was almost dry with 1 quart) and stopped driving it until I took it in yesterday morning. The subaru specialist I take it to told me it looks like my head gasket needs replacing and they found metal shavings in the oil. They are saying I'm looking at $6,000-6500 for the top end to be rebuilt and that's assuming the turbo looks alright and they don't find any other issues. Sadly the body on my car is in pretty poor shape after years of hit and fender benders so I'm fairly certain it's not going to be worth repairing. I'm still thinking I should get a second opinion and see if there are any cheaper shops around but I can't imagine a world in which I'm paying less than $3000 even if I can find a rebuilt motor and have it dropped in or something. Does anybody have any advice? should I just sell her and start shopping? I'm in Portland if it matters, not even sure what you list a car in this kind of shape for on craigslist. It's still driving alright just pumping out white smoke so I'll leave it parked until I figure out what's next.

I mean if you aren't going to go wrenchin' yourself it sounds like it's time to buy a replacement. However this opens up a bunch of possibilities for you if you are the handy type. You could try and find an engine rebuilder who will take your motor and apply credit to a rebuilt one. You could try pulling the motor and rebuilding it yourself. You could also try and shove something that has no worldly business being there. That list is from least expensive option to most.

Update on 2010 OBS clutch issue: Once engaged in reverse, I can't seem to hear anything strange. The issue continues but it is intermittent- this morning no noise until about half way to work, then it was sounding like crap, then it went back making no noise at all. Are there simple things to check? Any diagnostic ideas? Thanks in advance.
