I think the problem is that the question of whether Israel "should" exist is hidden underneath a lot of Internet I/Pchat, below the surface It is very important to me that Israel exists in some form or other, but I have a very long list of grievances with the way its government is run that prevent it from being the kind of state I'd get mad at people for criticizing, and Bibi has basically a permanent spot on my Top Five Most Hated People list. Likud in general is just the fuckin' worst. Israel is a country with a strong socialist tradition (Zionism started off as a socialist philosophy and Israel was deep deep rose-red for the first few decades of its existence), but it's been run by neocons for like twenty years because the generation currently in charge of it is unable to grow out of a siege-mentality from their childhood that hasn't been accurate or relevant since maybe 1973. It's a huge waste. I also have a number of very strong opinions about BDS which I studiously avoid bringing up because I don't want to spend all day defending them, but Schumer's attempt to criminalize it is ludicrously unconstitutional and pretty blatantly fascist. The anti-BDS legislation and today's hollow turd of a platform makes me think that the Democrats rightward shift is only going to accelerate. Their fundraising recently has dropped off a cliff. Their donor base is shrinking. I can only imagine that's from smaller contributors leaving the party in disgust, leaving them increasingly dependent on big donors. I can easily see that going exponential as they increasingly become the mouthpieces of a handful of unhinged billionaires to a degree that dwarfs what they are now which will only reinforce that cycle.
