It's kind of crucial that he happened to do it in Germany because (believe it or not) there are still a lot of Nazis in Germany, and this is definitely catering to them. Emanuel Schiffgens should know. He's German as well. If you give money to people like that, chances are they might give some of it to their Nazi friends or help recruit impressionable people.

Yeah, uh, absent any evidence other than "a guy said a dumb thing" I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that TM is not a Nazi cult. Definitely some kind of cult, but you're going to have to work a little harder if you want to make them Nazis.

TM as a practice is hard to complain about, but the actual organization is definitely culty. My aunt was sucked into it for a while and spent way too much money on Maharishi-branded ayurvedic stuff. I mean, I'm glad it was that and not Scientology or something, and to be fair that rose petal jam is delicious, but it's not fun to feel like you're losing a family member to an obvious huckster like Mahesh. Moreover, you definitely do not need to spend a thousand dollars at a TM center to learn how to meditate. I mean, if you do it and that works for you then great, but it seems pretty transparently meant to suck you into the Maharishi worship thing.

I don't really think any of this is an indictment of Lynch though. Yeah, maybe he believes in yogic flying and other nonsense, but even if that's true it's still and by far the least weird thing about him.

I pretty much agree with you for what it's worth, I think TM is benign if you avoid the hooks they have out to go deeper into Mahesh stuff. Anyone interested in that type of meditation is probably better off just reading The Relaxation Response for approximately 0 dollars instead of learning it from TM for 1000 but hey whatever floats boats.

However I don't think David Lynch completely escapes culpability for his foundation pushing TM on schoolchildren who might not be informed enough to do their research. The degree of blame is in question though, since how involved he really is in the foundation beyond having his name attached is honestly unknown to me.

Fishopolis is basically right - TM as a practice is fine and very helpful to many, but as a business it definitely has its creepy and cultish elements. I get why people are wary of Lynch's involvement, but calling him a cultist and such is too far.

Plus it means he tweets about Katy Perry every so often which is really funny

I must know your secrets.
You know, Michael Horse didn't tell us outright that he painted the hide, but when he told us Hawk had a map like that (and that it was a practice he had used, similar to his ledger paintings) I guess I shouldn't be surprised!

Besides, I thought the style looked like his work.

I'm not sure why people keep saying the hobo blew up Lillard's head. To me it seemed like he crushed it like got a light guy did with those other people.

The brothers don't seem stupid so now that they know that Dougie isn't the one who was screwing them over, I think they're going to realize it was Anthony, so I don't think his life expectancy is going to be very high at this point. (It would be awesome if they have Candie kill him.) So once he's dead, what's Office Guy going to do? I imagine the brothers will have Coop under their protection from now on, so how's the guy going to get close to him?

After the first episode with Bobby, I said in this thread that it seemed like he was only on the show for nostalgia reasons. I'm so glad I was wrong. He's the best character so far.

Well... There was a PBBTTH sound, blood splashed all over the inside of the car, and the top part of his head is completely missing when it shows his corpse. Seems like a reenactment of Scanners to me.

Either way it doesn't much matter, all that really matters is that as Gordon eloquently puts it, "He's dead."

Okay, you want more proof than a guru saying "Unfortunately [Hitler] didn't succeed", so I'm going to translate a brief excerpt from sect specialist Hansjörg Hemminger's article on TM for you:

Hemminger (7-8) posted:

The party had the goal to file 10.000 criminal complaints against leading German politicians in BRD. The reasoning is standardised and aims to show that politicians make themselves culpable by disregarding TM-practices, thereby being partially responsible for alleged crimes, ecological damages, etc. The internet representation of this campaign makes clear that there is a cadre of German TM-supporters who fully identify with Maharishi's totalitarian ideology.

[…] Equally obvious is that they advocate for the fight against democratic forms of government and against legal structures that are based on human rights.

Hemminger goes on to say that he does not believe TM is currently in danger of becoming radicalised, as the radicalised cadre is fairly small. However, after Maharishi's death, there could be a potential development in this direction.

I'm sorry that I'm keeping this derail alive. This seemed kind of important, though. I'll stop posting now.

Did anybody point out that Dougie Coop can feel some of things happening with Booper? He touched his face the same way that Booper touched Jack's face and said "dead"

Could it be that he made that connection between touching the face and the guy being dead himself or did he pick up the association of the two from Booper?

Yeah, in retrospect Anthony trying to dump it all on Dougie makes him look guilty as hell. As for the office guy, bad Cooper might get to him before he has a chance to redeem himself.

It's been suggested that the brothers are small time compared to the other mob players in Vegas--if Office Guy wants Dougie gone, well, he'll probably fail, but I don't think the bros will have the firepower to stop him.
