Have you seen how little welfare is? Anyone on welfare has my Pitty. That's a miserable life. If we have to carry some dead weight, well, then that's the cost of a civil society.

Take that pittance away and people will get genuinely desperate.

Only a few republicans have voted so far. Right now the Dems are just voting present, they'll come in with a flood of no's at the end.

The GOP moderates haven't voted yet.

edit: I dont think anyone has voted yet, they are doing the rollcall first to see that all 100 senators are present.

No, votes begin with a roll call as if everyone were going to respond. Many of them do but they always have to chase people down in the halls.

Nothing you have said here is technically wrong, but you have got to understand that you simply lack the perspective to address these issues. Until you have been forced to spend time gazing into the abyss you cannot appreciate what it means or how a person copes with it. While your intentions are genuine it is clear that you have no relevant practical experience- you are relying on your ideals and that is causing a conflict with the real world. (no ideals ever survive contact with the real world) To those facing death as a result of this vote you sound like a fat college proffessor lecturing a tribe of hunter-gatherers on how they should live in the jungle. You have some book learning and some ideals and you have genuinely given the matter some real thought and hell I'll even grant you that your intentions are pure.

But whatever your intentions are you know poo poo about fuckall when it comes to this situation and are actively making things worse/impeding progress with your ham-handed attempts to force reality comply with your ideals.

If I didn't have ACA, I couldn't hold a job. What's better, me being a productive member of the workforce with a little assistance or completely dependent on the state?

1. The mother of a friends ex-boyfriend. Bragged about her welfare, crappy section 8 apartment, and food stamps at the bar.

Within 2 hours of meeting her, I knew that I didn't want her doing so much as stacking a shelf, cleaning a mess, or running a cash register. She just sorta sucked as a human being.

If Kid Rock runs for Senate, though, her son might have some good stories, having dealt him coke and all...
