monopolies are a big deal because market dominance is the mechanism by which private money exerts control over society. monopoly is also the asymptote of capitalism because the logic of capital prescribes money and power concentrating in fewer and fewer hands. you can't get rid of monopolies for good without getting rid of capitalism
