I mean, they are constructing a new office building that they paid for with cash.

If you have a gold skin for any ship the devs just gave everyone a free updated copy of it which looks even better.

So I recently took a break from doing rare loops to get money to buy cool ships to look at passenger stuff, saw a mission to go 20,000 LY for 20 million credits. Which seems like not a great credit to time ratio but it might be kinda since I wanted to explore anyways... So I didn't take the mission and the mission parameters said no time limit and didn't want to be scanned. Now the end was Colonia which was this weird independant system crazy far out.. Questions I have are: Are there a bunch of these systems way out there? Are these NPC stations (Can you even have player stations?) Is there really any danger in doing one of these missions way out in the middle of nowhere except for running out of fuel if you don't filter by star route?

Colonia is a second human bubble with full service stations, outfitting, etc. There's no hostiles in deep space to bother you (yet). The biggest risk comes from boredom (1000 LY is about a hour of constant scoop-jump-honk-scoop-jump-honk) and accidentally flying into a star while you're distracted by Netflix or something.

There's no announced date for the actual Thargoid update AFAIK, I guess we'll hear more during their event on the 7th of october that they just announced. The latest patches lets you customize your pilot and mess around with multicrew by manning turrets or flying around in a fighter. It's okay~

I'm doing missions to unlock Marco Qwent, and the mission wanted me to run 2 tons of coffee to some system. [You may be attacked!] I'm like holy poo poo that must be some good loving coffee! Although reading up on it, is Hera Tani worth going for instead as she can do Grade 5 and he can only do Grade 4?

Going off track how? You just click on 'plot route' and then just follow the route it creates for you! Bring a fuel scoop.

I also like to bring an SRV on long exploration trips. Not at all necessary and it will cost you a bit of jump range, but there's something really special to me to be literally the first human to land on a faraway planet. Go boldly. And maybe bring an AFMU as well.

Unless you have a specific destination that you're trying to burn towards going off track is totally fine. Maybe you saw a star on the galaxy map that looks interesting or you saw a cluster of stars in the skybox while flying around and you try to see where they are. My first 1000+ly trips were to nearby nebulas. Veil nebula west is always a great place to start.

If the process of planning your journey is something that you want to spend time on, rather than just picking a direction and flying, then I'd recommend you check out this great neutron star route finder You can use neutron stars to boost your jump range, at the cost of potential damage to your FSD and possible death. it can however, double your jump distance and can break up the jump-scan-honk monotony that going from A-B can have.

Also despite having a supercharged FSD your nav comp will only draw lines to your top default jump range. So you need to manually pick your route. But still jumping 200ly in one go is fun.

alphabettitouretti posted:Is Quince mission stacking still a thing? I'm not seeing any sightseeing missions at the moment. Dock at Quince. Get yourself the cheapest piece of poo poo (or a fast Eagle) with an SRV bay, discovery scanner (edit: apparently you don't even need this) and at least 4 tons of cargo capacity (you need this to accept missions). You boardscum until you have a good hand. Launch. Honk your disco scanner. Fly to nearest planet. Pick a mission navigation target and fly towards it. Eventually a building spawns. You land next to it, hop to a SRV, bind fire groups, recklessly drive towards the building and scan the data point. This completes ALL surface scanning missions. (In Open, you can even get them completed if someone else happens to scan a building when you're in same instance at planet surface!) Then you get back to your ship, fly up for one kilometer and boost into the ground. Immersively, you spawn at the station. Turn in the missions, sell material rewards, repeat. It's boring as poo poo and you'll spend 90 % of your time either boardhopping and following a 50-kilometer checkpoint route above a brown planet. However, the money is good, we can talk of 14+ million credits per 9-minute run; 100mil is pretty fast. While you're at it, once you start to actually make money consider doing all 50k and 125k donations for Empire factions for some Empire rank. The mission rewards are better if you have high exploration data, and most factions have rep lock on missions. Right now Quince is in civil war so it's "donate money/donate weapons/massacre/surface scans" all day long. lemonadesweetheart posted:I was planning on doing some exploring and some passenger stuff so here's what I was planning on. Downgrade you shield to something ultra-light, maybe 3D. Shields are there to protect you when you mess up while docking or trying to land. Downgrade your powerplant to lowest weight that gives you enough power. Be cautious of landing with 5D thrusters and Power Distributor since you'll be in poo poo if you hit 1+G planets. Engineers give you Clean Drive Tuning and Low Emissions Power Plant for cooler running, as well as long range/fast scan Detailed Surface Scanners. These are completely optional and you do just fine without. El Perkele fucked around with this message at 13:46 on Jul 27, 2017 |

You don't even need a discovery scanner since the missions only appear on the planet next to the station and the POI pops up when you get close enough.

El Perkele posted:Stack surface scan missions. The missions stop showing up once you've accepted three, so you accept the two highest-paying and then board-hop until you get a board of something like 8+ missions. Pick them all. This isn't really for the money, just for kicks so I'm not really going to bother grinding exploration stuff out. My shield is already 3D but I forgot to update shipyard so I'm good there. Didn't think of 1+G planets so I'll revise my thruster and pd, is there a guideline for that or should I just leave as is and stay away from high gravity planets. I've already got the lightest power I can get away without dealing with annoying heat build up. I also have some engineer things on my FSD and Thrusters (just rank 2). Sultan Tarquin posted:You don't even need a discovery scanner since the missions only appear on the planet next to the station and the POI pops up when you get close enough. I was bringing it along for exploration stuff rather than the actual passenger mission. The passenger missions out that far seem to be very forgiving time wise so I figured I'd take the scenic route and scan some stuff while I was out there.
