Old Story posted:I just watched Rogue One for the first time since it was on Netflix. I didn't hate it as much as the RLM guys did, instead I just felt nothing. I didn't care about any characters or their deaths, but the space explosions were top-notch. CGI people still look terrible, guess we're just not there yet. I think this was their biggest problem with it, though. It's not that it was actively bad, but that it was more or less nothing, but with Star Wars slapped on it. I also watched it recently and felt the same. It's probably the least interesting movie I've seen in a bit.

Aside from it being about video games, and Jack being 50% of the people in it, I think Pre-Rec bothers me because of how self-assured Rich is. I think I need him desperately making jokes to impress Mike and Jay, and him being on the verge of emotional breakdown at their whim.

One thing i noticed is that the new Star wars movies definitely look bland. The prequels sucked and there was a lot of goofy poo poo in them, but there was also some cool designs and creatures. I like the underwater bubble city and the Venice-looking city in episode 1. I actually like Sebulba (the four legged alien that races anakin in the podrace). I like the bug people in episode 2 and the nightclub on Corusant. In Episode 3 we catch a glimpse of a planet with giant glowy mushrooms. But in Force Awakens, theres nothing that sticks out, visually. Part of that is because JJ Abrams was trying to make it look exactly like A New Hope, but even the new stuff is boring looking. The monsters on Han Solo's spaceship are just shapeless tentacle things. In Rogue one, the creature that Forrest Whitaker uses to interrogate the defected pilot is...a shapeless tentacle thing. At least the prequels gave us some weird and memorable stuff, and some of it was kind of cool (though surrounded by garbage).

nobody will argue that the Prequels did not have good vistas or mechanical designs. They're some of the best in the whole franchise. But all the technical poo poo in the world can't save them from the horrible acting, pacing and plotting.

I dont see why we cant get better acting, pacing, and plotting in addition to weird and interesting things that we've never seen before.

Nerds need a correct amount of bullying to stay in line. Jack allows Rich to exist in a totally unbullied state, which creates an unnatural imbalance.

Poor Jake Lloyd. I sorta feel bad for him, those movies and the hatred towards them done broke his brain. On the other hand, he's richer than I'll ever be, so I'm not exactly spilling any tears.

Is he really though? When it's your first movie and you're like 10 what do you even earn for that? I seriously doubt he got an residuals, that's pretty rare in Hollywood right?

I'm gonna venture a guess that Jake Lloyd probably doesn't have that much money. Is he still in prison?

I was really disappointed at John Wick's 2 ending, because it went on for like a minute longer than it needed to, and there was such a loving effective stopping point that they missed. I guess I'll use spoiler tags, but it's really not that big a spoiler. Here's how it should have ended: John Wick: "Tell them that I'll kill all of them" Ian McShane: "Of course you will!" SMASH TO CREDITS that say "John Wick will return" Like, bing bong bing, so simple, but instead we see him run away for like 60 seconds while a bunch of people get texts. Yawn. Rest of the movie was amazing, though.

They coulda cut out the 2nd 20 minutes of John Wick shooting people in the head the exact same way over and over and then it would have ended a lot earlier.

John Wick is literally running into the next movie, that's why the scene is there.

Old Star Wars was good because it was borrowing from old serials. new Star Wars sucks because it's just borrowing from Star Wars. Go back to the roots and start ripping off old good stuff but IN SPAAAAAACE. Aubrey-Maturin but Aubrey is a fisman and Maturin flies a new kind of X-Wing. Wages of Fear but one of them is a robot. Slacker but in Mos Eisley

I can kinda see Guns of Navarone in that characters have to blow something up that's related to a big gun at the end, and everybody dies like in Saving Private Ryan, and The Dirty Dozen in they are both movies featuring multiple characters, but that still seems like a stretch.
