Nintendo just posted on the official 3DS Facebook page:quote:In Metroid: Samus Returns, the Metroid amiibo unlocks Metroid Marker, a tool to help you find nearby Metroids. In addition, it will also unlock Fusion Mode, a new mode that offers increased difficulty and features Samus in her Fusion suit. Note that Fusion Mode will only be available after finishing the game at least once. Doesn't say whether or not you can unlock Fusion Mode normally.

that wording implies "no" imo it's an additional qualifier to the amibo rather than "note that you can also..."

At first glance I misread marker as maker. For a hot second I thought the unlock was Metroid Maker and I was going to actually lose my poo poo.

I can't remember if it was announced, but apparently Etrian Odyssey V is coming to the west at some point. At least according to Nintendo's earnings report released today.

They said Kirby Robobot had copy powers that could only be accessed with the amiibo but that turned out to not be true.

shocker that transitioning an RTS into 2D platformer format just waters the whole thing down shame too cuz it would have been really neat to see them pull it off well but yeah when I saw pikmin + 2D, I was less than enthusiastic

Is there any way to tell if a game only works in the 'New 3ds' instead of the regular ones? Or is it just Xenoblade and Fire Emblem Warriors that don't work with the old model?

It's literally those two games, Binding of Issac and SNES games that don't work on an old 3DS, also Hyrule Warriors runs like complete and utter poo poo and shouldn't be played on one.

raditts posted:Isn't Kirby Mass Attack pretty much "Pikmin as a 2D platformer" True, Mass Attack is great. However while it has similarities, it was also a pretty fast paced action game. Hey Pikmin isn't really much like it. The Hey Pikmin demo seemed okay though and I think I'll take the risk and give it a shot. Regy Rusty fucked around with this message at 21:54 on Jul 26, 2017 |

Mass Attack is primarily an action game and there's no Olimar-style avatar, you're just hurling Kirbys at things. Hey! Pikmin is an exploratory quasi-platformer for children - I think it adequately conveys the charm of Pikmin but it doesn't resemble a real Pikmin game at all, nor is it very interesting on its own merits. It's not a complete writeoff like the Chibi Robo platformer but it's hardly a must-play, either.

Despite YI:DS being a pretty lame game and Yoshi's New Island presumably being not much better, the games themselves actually sold pretty well. Which is basically more the branding, but it's still kinda boggling why Nintendo is content to deliberately sell mediocrity to people.

This week's drop. 3DS Dr. Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training | PAL | £24.99 / €29.99 (eShop / Retail) (July 28) Hey! PIKMIN | NA | PAL | $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 (eShop / Retail) (July 28) Kid Tripp | NA | PAL | $3.99 / £3.59 / €3.99 (eShop Only) Miitopia | NA | PAL | $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 (eShop / Retail) (July 28) New 3DS Swipe | NA | PAL | $1.49 / £1.39 / €1.49 (eShop Only) In PAL-land it's a big week for 3DS - the release of Dr. Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training! It was released in North America on February 10th, 2013 (as Brain Age - Concentration Training [I never knew it had a different name in NA actually]), and is finally being released in PAL territories, with no clues as to why it has taken 4 years. The 3DS is also getting 2 more retail games this week, Miitopia and Hey! Pikmin. Both have demos up if you want to try them out. Kid Tripp is a port of a mobile game, a difficult platform runner. Swipe is New 3DS exclusive for some reason.
