I'm starting to think we as a nation gave up on good architecture after realizing there's no way to make a garage look good.

Eh, that's certainly one of more visually appealing ways of doing it. At least the tried to match it up with the house a bit, instead of doing the big ol' box stapled on the side of the house.

owns just having a big General Purpose Parking Zone behind the house outside the inner yard fence. park 4 cars, park 2 cars and an RV, park an RV and a boat, what the hell ever note: i do not have a car, RV, or boat, but it's still handy

FCKGW posted:we solved this back then when we put the two car garage behind the house on its own separate driveway Because the garage isn't for cars, it's for your washer and dryer, hobby room, storing all your crap, and hiding your porn stash. You can't leave all that poo poo where you'd have to walk through the rain to get to it, are you crazy? Alternatively: because developers realized that attaching the garage allowed them to reduce lot sizes, which means more units per development, which means more money. Buyers don't actually give a poo poo, they're just buying what the developers are selling. Best option: because building three walls of a garage against a house is cheaper than building four walls of a detached garage.

I want a detached garage, but with a connecting tunnel underground. Bonus if it has a crazy little train car for transport a la Dark Man.
